I am not sure if this is a behaviour topic or a feeding one, but Ruby suddendly in the past 3 days seems to never have enough food.
when I got her she was being wormed, so that was beginning of December. She's about 8 months old Terrier X. after being wormed she was leaving half her food behind and we started to take her bowl away. she eats outside (and last year had a small rat problem which i would not like to recurr).
since 3 days ago, she eats like there is no tomorrow and begs+raids the bin, everything possible.
i noted that she has the nasty habit to eat other dogs poo when she's off the lead and was wondering if this could have caused a recurrence of worms and if so, can I re-de-worm her?
if it's not worms, what else can i do?
thanks, Resi

Think you meant ravenous not ravishing! :D
Perish the thought, but are you sure she isn't in whelp? Other than that, maybe she's just settled in with you & has regained her appetite? I wouldn't have thought that in 6 weeks she would have such a bad infestation of worms that she would be starving hungry. Was she wormed with a vet. type wormer, not one from a pet shop? had she been properly wormed from a puppy? If not, maybe she has never been completely clear of worms. Hope you sort it oout
is she still whelping at 8 months? she was ravenous (sorry about that...) as i got her, but then I changed her to complete dry food and she started to leave it behind...maybe she did not like it.
she was wormed with Johnson worming tabs.
I asked a farmer friend (he helped me introduce sheep to Ruby - she was terrorising them by inviting them to play - front on the ground bum in the air, wagging madly...oh dear...) and he told me to just feed her as much as she likes, but keeping an eye on her weight just in case....
for the rest she's lovely and everyone adores her...she is a bit bold...tried to get a bull to play with her today...decided that I was not going to get her from the field!!! she came back once I started to walk away...
thank you for your help!

Whelping means pregnant, at 8 months old, has she had her 1st season yet, has she been with other dogs and maybe you havent noticed as she is still so young? It is highly unlikely, but is still a possibility
my dictionary said whelp means a young animal....no she's not pregnant but she did get the nickname Big Nips...thought she might have a phantom pregnancy...
uhm, now I am worried...

Yes 'whelp' is a young dog, and 'whelping' means producing whelps ...

It would probably be best if you get your dog to the vets for a thorough check up and ask for some worming advice. The vet will advise you as to whether your bitch is in whelp and what course of worming you should follow.

A phantom pregnancy would induce a bigger appetite, is she inclined to gaurd soft toys? Does she seem at all subdued? Can you gently get any milk from her nipples?

I never feel confident with using over-the-counter wormers. It would probably be best if you got some prescription ones from the vet - I've always found them to be more effective against both roundworm and tapeworm.

I agree about pet shop wormer. Drontal or Panacure might sort her out.

i have also come to the conclusion that pet shop wormers are rubbish !!

Pet shop wormers shouldnt be allowed to be sold if you ask me. Whats the point of them, apart from people (Including me foolishly once) thinking they work. I use metromax (I think thats what its called) from the vets. Never had any problems with this one, apparently its a bit stronger than Drontal the vets said. My terrier is prone to worms, and is wormed every month now on this. :)

Gonzo,
I think you mean Milbemax, which was just introduced in the UK about a year ago.
