I wondered if the breeders on the forum could tell me their opinions on what they prefer to start weaning their puppies on(i know people prefer different foodstuffs for their dogs) but the reason being is-out of so many articles i have read and breeders i have spoken to-it seems to vary so widely-
One article i read on a forum the person was giving her pups weetabix !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which surely cannot be any good for them.i was really shocked.(gonna be wrong now aren't i?)
I recently helped a friend whelp a litter (of whom breeds very occasionally, every so many years)as i was interested in experiencing a whelping, and as a result i am keen to learn even more about the various stages of it all.(their answer sounded much more sensible, raw scraped beef and soaked kibble)
I myself am not considering breeding at all,its just really to gain more knowledge and insight.many thanks in advance.

i start weaning at 3 weeks and they get warm raw chicken mince, and by the end of the first try i will have most of the litter on 1 meal aday and with in 2 days they are all at it. as they grown i use diffrent meats and by the time there 4 weeks they are on chicken wings, i also give them socked burns puppy food from 4 weeks onwords

I used well-soaked James Wellbeloved Puppy kibble and raw scraped beef, once they are on 2 meals a day I use the soaked puppy meal as a base and add different raw meats, scrambled egg, cheese, fish etc to get them used to different smells and tastes. Once they got to 4 weeks, 2 or 3 different puppy kibbles made up the mix that is used as a base which other things are added to. I found that this led to puppies who would eat/try anything :D One thing I feel is important is to use separate bowls for feeding after the first few days. And to supervise so they all get their share.
