Would someone please be able to tell us why our 2year old springer spaniel has taken to biting himslef on the back leg. He doesnt have fleas and its only his biting that has made the skin sore and lumpy. We took him to our vets a while ago when it happened previously and the vet said it was because where his liver spots were growing it was causing itching. Surely this cant still be the case - please help!
im sorry i could be wrong here but 'growing liver spots causing itchness?' i have a liver sprocker spaniel and he has never been itchy due to liver markings growing, if i was you i would find another vet as the itchness could be down to many things and IMO not his markings, for example my nans lhaso cross was scrathing and she kept spraying him with flea spray. we told her to stop spraying him and not to use as much carpet fresher as it was causing him to scratch, the scratching then stopped and she has wooden floors now so no need for the amount of carpet freshner, food can also cause itchness, as can boredom and 'self rewarding learnt behaviour',- Tess my lab kept chewing her feet due to a yeast infection we sorted the problem out but right at the start of the treatment my vet warned that it my be too late to stop the chewing as she may now find it rewarding to herself as it has become a learnt behaviour, ( me thinks me has got it twisted in some way but me know what me mean its just not reading right  )
