Topic Dog Boards / General / sibes kennels and going away pls help
- By ajolie [gb] Date 11.01.05 13:32 UTC
A dilemma i have thats coming up is we have had a hol booked for this oct and booked it about 6months before getin my 1st baby
and i really dont wanna leave them.  This year just gone i went away with them which was fantastic and are going to take them again in the beginging of the summer.  I cant really cancel it as it was nearly £3k to cancun mexico 5*hotel booked by my patner for a present as ive never gone abroad.  This is def a one off and prob wont go away for yrs to come (if i have my way never without my babies again)
Have been thinkin that as my bro lives with us he could look ater them but i dont think
i can rely on him hes only 17 so he will just stay on the comp and he wont take thm out.

So next opt is kennels they have only stayed in kennels for one night on two seperate occassions.  The 2nd time at a diff kennel she said they were abit o a pain and nooks being a mummies boy was v.vocal any sibe owner will tell u that a sibe being vocal and missing someone is not the usual barking or whinning its extremly load with a mix of howls, barks, whinnes (and i swear some whale too) as i got to the gate she said this went on the whole time.  But there was no noise when i got there UNTIL i said "must be having a break for five mins!" that was it he couldnt even see me but he went bersrck with this noise and could hear him throwing himself at the cage door.

Even though the 2nd kennel was local and she was a really nice lady with only 5 kennels so not to packed with a paddock attached but there was some small gaps that mine could prob work there way through being escape artist.  One major off putter for me is that she has no experience with huskies, new nothing about the breed.  She really didnt seem happy with his vocalness as it was so much loader than she has been used to.

So after all this rambling i was just wondering what every who owns dogs do when they go away.  Or if there are any sibe owners that have boarding kennels that could help me. Or anyone with kennels that have experinced sibes staying.

thanx for any replies.

I would get them kenneled or looked after in your own home by experienced sibe folk.  I am sure the breed clubs should have such info, so would try ringing the secretaries.

I have the same predicament - I just wouldn't be happy leaving my Mals with people who don't have experience of them. I have only ever left them for a short while, but then I have arranged for them to go to other Mal owners, or back to their breeder. Maybe this is an option for you?

Suggest you leave them with Fred and Amanda Palmer at their boarding kennels in Cambridgeshire. They've had Sibes for years and years, have about 20 of their own at the mo I think. Large Sibe proof paddock and runs. Tel 01354 638595.
