Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Flatcoat Retriever - bald patches

My two year-old flatcoat has developed two vertical strip, bald patches on her neck either side of her throat. The skin is clear and does not bother her. She is not scratching. I don't believe it to be anything to do with her collar - which she wears only for a short time each day when off her rope lead. Any ideas most welcomed. Thanks

The pattern isn't typical, but might be worth having a thyroid test done by your vet.   Usually, however, with a thyroid baldness you get it affecting the flanks , but anything might happen, I suppose!   They may also recommend taking a skin scraping or allergy test.

You could try spraying with colloidal silver solution - I cured a thin, but not really bald, coat in son's 9 year old neutered flatcoat by spraying with this for a couple of days, and the difference had to be seen to be believed!

Hope you get it sorted

After getting her vet checked I would recommend trying Quistel....it worked for me

Get her vet checked and another line of enquiry for you might like to follow up would be to contact Mrs Brenda Phillips Health Committee Chairman of the Flatcoated Retriever Society. You never know, she might well be able to identify the problem and help you.
