Hello
I have a miniature long haired dachshund, and she is just 7 months old. Yesterday she started her first season and i was wondering when or if i should get her spayed. Although i love her and would like 10 of her i have read that it makes no difference to them if they have 1 litter. Am i right? If so then i would definately like to have her spayed but dont know when. Also would her personality change if she was spayed?
Thanks for your time

Hi! If you're going to have her spayed it's best to do it midway between seasons - ie in about 3 months time. There is absolutely no need for her to have a litter - in fact she will probably be much healthier if she doesn't.

To answer your other question now that she is mature having had a season (you will notice after it is over in the next few months that she is a lot more grown up)m then you should not notice any change in her character due to spaying, just the normal maturity.  It hasn't been scientifically proved, but I and many other breeders and dog woners have noticed that if bitches and dogs are neutered prior to sexual maturity that they neve grow up mentally, so it is one of the reasons we advise waiting for the dog to be fully amture physically and mentally before this is done, as it soes interfere with both processes.
