I have a Weimaraner Pup and would like to breed from Her, how do you decide on a kennel name and then register that name? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if your pup is kc. reg she WILL already have a kennel name. If you want an ''affix'' which is your signature kennel name then any pups your girl has with a kc. reg sire can take on your breeding affix. I wasn't sure from your post if you are enquiring about affixes or to register your OWN pup. If your pup is not kc.reg then i am affriad you will never be able to register her. If she is kc. reg you need to have all the necessary health checks done to see if she is carrying any hereditary  problems, same goes with the sire you use, before you breed. Hope this helps.

Hi Guest, go to the Kennel Club site. www.the-kennel-club.org.uk  Then scroll down to KC Forms. Choose Application to register an Affix. All the things you need to know are there. You can download the form and print it off.

I would suggest that if your bitch is already KC Registered to contact her breeder, who will I am sure be very willing to give you any advice needed as regards registering an Affix and on what bloodlines you should be looking for in a dog to use. They will aso be able to mentor you through the whelping of your bitch when she is old enough.  She will also need to have all the relevant health tests for that particular breed and they will be able to give you advice on that also.

If your bitch does not have an Affix,not meaning to upset you in anyway, then I would suggest that you reconsider breeding from her, as she most likely won't be of good enough quality to breed from.

Also meant to say and affix has a better chance of being accepted if it is a made up name, as there are thousands of registered affixes.

For example: If you had children called Mary and Joe, you could combine them and use Marjo, similarly with pet dog names.

Wish I was one of these magical people who can tell that their bitch is of breedable quality when its just a pup!
