hi as you probably know i had a litter of 13 puppys 6 days ago anyway they have been doing really well, but last night i went to change their bedding picked one up and she was very cold and limp i thought she was dead but i kept rubbing her and breathing in her mouth and she started gasping for air i did this for about 10 mins and she started crying but was still very cold rang the vets who said it was up to me if i wanted to bring ger over or let nature take its course because there was very little he could do anywayand it was £50 call out.i wasnt botherd about the money iwould never have forgave myself if there was something he could have done and i dint give her the chance so hubby took her and he said her heartbeat was fine but her temperature was to low to register and her stomach was very hard she was constipated because she had over eaten, and to keep her warm ,ive never heard of contipation causing a puppy to be so cold and limp at first i thought maybe mum had sat on her and id just found her in time the rest of the litter are not cold at all i just dont understand ,has anyone ever had anything like this before debb

A litter I had last year were around 3 weeks old when I noticed one had gone exactly like this. My vet put it down to overeating too and constipation, she was kept in the vet overnight, given fluids, was very cold and limp and I also thought we were going to loose her, but an overnight stay at the vets next morning she was back to normal...........very worrying at the time, but she's now 2 years old and never had a days illness.

are they on vet bed,? ive heard of problems with puppies sucking it & the fibres been digested.
how is she now?
michelle
no they arnt on vet bedding ive used ordinary thick blankets this time , she seems fine this morning fingers crossed,i was so worried i dont know how some breeders dont get attached it was really upsetting i thought we were going to lose her!! i spoke to a breeder this morning and he said oh no you shouldnt get attached to them because anything can go wrong, easier said than done i think!!!

my friend recently had a litter of 9 & lost all but 3 of them. he was totally devastated & hes not really a bloke that youd think would be really affected, but he was.

hows your little girl today Dylans?
hi she seems fine, its weird how we were so close to losing her then she picked up so quickly, they are 1 week old today but they all seem to be doing really well.

brilliant news & happy bday to the babies!
