What and how do you keep your home smelling fresh? I didnt have a problem with this until little Ollie's attack on the Ozone. Vet says it looks like he is just going to be a windy little boy. So, I need help here. I have asked the local hotel which has those puffy things on the wall in the loos, but apparently they are on contract. I though those would be ideal as they are placed high on the wall and would have been well away from the dogs. I connot spray as this would seriously affect their noses and eyes etc. and the little plug in things, well I dont have enough sockets to even dent the problem. Its not all the time, just occasionally, but at least once a day his gases build up and he is on medication for release. But I keep looking round for the accidents only to see Ollie looking embarrassed. I can cope with it when the doors are open to the run attached to the back of my house, but in this weather all doors and windows are firmly closed. Old fashioned sash windows, so cant even open a little. HELP Please :D

Hi Kay Airwick now make a Freshmatic spray which is similar to the ones you sometimes see in hotels and such like.It runs off batteries they include a sticky hook for you to wall mount it and you can buy refill cannisters for it.I got one for £9.99 in Wilkos.HTH Gillian
I've got some of those too, they are brilliant, once you get used to the noise every so many minutes. You can set them to different time intervals.
Because I've got them placed high up the smell seems to linger in the aire.

Sounds just what I am looking for. Is Wilkos the same as Wilkinsons, as they have a Wilkinsons in Carlisle, which is my nearest town, all I need now is the dingy to get there :D :D

Kay, Yes Wilko's is the same store as Wilkinsons, but try Tesco or Asda first for the special price ones.

I totally agree, I use these to, and as lady dazzle said it takes a while to get used to the noise, but are worth every penny. Tesco have them on special offer at the moment round £7-£8 for the entire kit. Don't all go out now buying them all up :) The refills are quite reasonable to price around £2.80 ish in Tesco. The refills come in Lavender and Citrus. I also like the idea that you can change the timing of the sprays from every 8, 16 and 36 mins. I've had mine (through-out the house) now up for about 7 weeks still running off the same refill.
Best thing since sliced bread...LOL

Homes need fresh air, not just for wiffy dogs :D I would investigate having your sashes overhauled and working again they really are the best windows for bringing air into the house as they can be opened a little both top and bottom creating a flow of air that doesn't just rush into the room as with modern windows. You and your home will benefit :)

I know Isabel, I really need to do that. They are the really old original windows and the sashes are chain, like a bicycle chain, and are completely seized. But the house is so old and warped, a lot of air does circulate and usually my front door is always open. A friend of mine had hers done and also some glass replaced, and as it is non standard leaded glass, the glass is so thin, it had to be imported from Russia, at a cost of £8500.00. That was just one window. It is a large hunting lodge with 17 windows, OUCH

Morrisons is open in Carlisle Kay and your side of the water ;) LOL Gillian

I don't like air fresheners - they are just squirting chemicals into the air that you breath :( Opening windows and doors and 'trying' (difficult with dogs :D ) to keep the house as clean as possible is the only answer for me :)

Hi Daisy, I totally agree, which is why my doors are always open from the moment I get up till I go to bed. Today is really nice outside and doors are open and little Ollie is outside in the puppy run below my livingroom window. Believe me, the toxic gases which he is quite happily poluting the entire countryside with is something I cannot describe. And although he is outside the smell is being blown inside, honestly I have smelled sweeter slurry. :D His gases build up till he is completely bloated and can only seem to be removed with medication at the moment. Vet doesnt know what is causing it. On a more pleasant thought, we may keep taking 1st in the showring when I start campaining him, he will almost certainly get rid of any competition. lol
:D :D

Go and see the man on cromosol at most champ (and some open) shows. He does the hangy on the wall air squirters.and the re-fills. He is also really helpful and we get our disinfectant from their as its brillient!
We got some off the man that ice_queen was talking about and they are really good.

I like the Yankee wax tarts which you use in an oil burner instead of water & oil, they burn for about 4 hours at a time. They only cost about 80p each and have a huge range of fragrances.

Where do you get those Christine? I use the water and oil at the moment, but they sound better as I am always letting the water dry out.

Thanks Christine good idea, no wax tarts in Lockerbie so got granules instead. Usually I tend to find the aroma quite sickly or just downright awful, but found one called After the Rain, It is lovely. A fresh clean smell, if you get what I mean, hard to describe. Made by Old Colonial. They do Candles in the jars as well. Thanks everyone

I buy mine from Dobbies garden centres, however, I know Dobbies don't stretch down South. eBay is another good source especially for the rare smells. Yankee Candle do nice fresh smells too like Citrus Fresh, Cantaloupe & Cucumber, Honeydew Melon etc. My favourite is Fresh Cut Roses.
Yankee Candle do have a website and they also have a UK distributor, I emailed them & asked for my local stockists. Here is the link for the US site, if you email them they will give you the email address of their UK company and hopefully they'll guide you. http://www.yankeecandle.com/cgi-bin/ycbvp/retail.jsp
HTH?

Thanks Christine, have just done that. The fragrances sound yummy.
Wax Lyrical used to do heart shape waxes, but since they closed down I haven't been able to find anything like them.
Have you tried probiotics for Ollie? They do special dog ones and can sort out gut flora which may be part of the problem :)
Your vet can supplu them i believe, or go to a health shop and get some from the fridgerated area. You can't overdose on them or anything and people often use them on dogs.

Hi Lindsay, thanks, I have been giving him a little bio yogurt everyday. Going through Dumfries tomorrow so will stop off at healthfood shop. Vets never mentioned it, but i should have thought about that, as I have been reading the recent posts on probiotics. duh :D

My Uncles got an old boat in his front garden in Carlisle :d Doubt that iit's waterproof though :d His house isn't unforatunately.

I have found the Yankee Candle Uk site & you can shop from there now. www.yankeecandle.co.uk

They e.mailed me back with that site address, nice candles but they don't seem to do the wax tarts for some reason.
Hiya, try www.carrigfada.co.uk
Was unfamiliar with/intrigued about these wax tarts?... so did a little delving for myself. Off to purchase some myself now :D

My hound suffers from malazetia and can really whiff! especially when she's due her medicated shampoo bath :-0 i find the best thing ever to fragrance your home is to burn some oils - trust me folks i used to be addicted to candles but then i trained as a aromatherapist and i would never go back to candles now. OIls are great and can really lift or soothe your mood. Even if you dont want tobuy expensive aromatherapy essential oils you can get fab ones from the body shop! i buy spirit of moonflower and the house smells gorgeous! Much better than nasty sprays which cant be good for the dogs! some of them even have calming properties that really do work for animals ;-) me and molly have spent many an hour chilling with rose and geranium!
