Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Showing under the same judge

If you had won under a judge that you knew liked you dog, and having won under them before, would you go on and show again under that judge. or would you feel embarrassed to have the judge thing that you were pursueing them round shows to push the hope of getting and award again.. Or just move on to another judge that you had not been under before, I hope you understand what I mean I want to do a few at smaller shows as, well as do championship shows if possible to give my handling chance to get better and for the bitch to get used to working with me. But this judge just seems to have so many appointments in our area.

I assume your just talking about Open shows? It would depend personally for me on the judge and the dog. I've won BOB under breed specialists at open shows with my best Champ show dog, and wouldn't enter that dog under them again, as I know they REALLY like him, and would rather give someone else a chance, or take a different dog under them. Can't see the point of taking the same dog, not fair on the judge or the other exhibitors. Would probably take the same dog under an allrounder again though, they're unlikely to remember which dog is which and will place accordingly.

A lo9t would also depend on whether the judge had previously like the dog while it was a youngster, and it is now mature, or whether they are now doing varieties and previously did the breed.  Entering same dog n the breed invariably means your disapointed, as the judge is not guaranted to do the same gain as dogs change from show to show as does the opposition.  Sometimes decisions were close and the other dog will win.

At Champ show level I have only gone under a judge who gave my bitch the CC once, and this was because they were a replacement for the scheduled judge, and I only got third in Open this time, but I had wanted to go in the stakes,a nd you can't withdraw from breed classes.  Actually placed in Champ stakes that day over the bitch who got the CC that day.

The only time I wouldn't show under a judge( at champ level) who had judged my dogs before would be if they had awarded it the CC(never happened yet!!!!) but otherwise would not consider it was inappropriate to show under them again.
At open shows...not sure really....we do not have good entries in our breed at open shows and secretaries are crying out for people to enter as many classes as possible so would make a decision depending on the previous show I think ie if we had beaten any other dog to go BOB.

Tend not to put same dog under if they went BOB, the only way is down, right?

But I would bring in factors like who else was there etc, if we where the only people then we would go under them again, or the area, because it will be different competition!

However it is annoying when you get a judge who is judging at all your local shows.  We had a judge do that afew years ago, after judging a champshow, the bitch he gave the ticket to was at each of these open shows and went BOB each time.  Now we don't enter under this judge, unfortantly societ loses our entry for a show!

If they are accepting numerous judging appointments round your area well that's not your fault, I'd go under them, but as others have said you may face the disappointment of them not putting them up so high.  If you've not been showing for long either I'd still go as practice makes perfect as they say :d

Oh and if you keep winning other exibitors may decide not to like you, how would you feel if the same person one each time under the same judge?  You might get a bad name for yourself.  Not always a good thing

We have the same people win nearly every time they attend... we don't feel bad though...they have fantastic dogs!! Does make the odd(and I mean VERY odd) win against then more of an achievement and we are all friends and have a nice social day out and a gossip. At the last open show we did we had in attendance the DCC,RDCC and BRCC winners from crufts this year.We had a breed specialist judge and my 2 year old(who was unplaced at crufts due to his disgraceful behaviour) went BOB while my 3 year old won the open class....the others then stayed and supported us in the groups and a nice day was had by all.
I really don't go for the winning.....then I'm never dissapointed.....and when we do its a nice suprise

Why should you stop showing because other people are jealous?  Archer, I'm with you, go for the socialisation and if I win brilliant, but if not I've still had a good day out.

I have shown under the same judge, once at an open show where Mia was BOB & then RBIS.  The same judge then judged a CC show (Without CC's) a year later and I entered - & she was BOB again!

IT was a ANVSC class and an all rounder judge, at an open show. we got through to Reserve best puppy in group with her, but this judge do's seem to do a lot of AVNSC class's in our area, so would really cut out a few shows, and  I really need the practice we do limits and companions as well, but the only other dogs I have to show are import reg so very few I can do with them.

I need to show to get my confidence back.
