i see greyhounds are on the V.breeds list & they only had 84 reg in 2003.
are the racing dogs not greyhounds then??? obvisly not KC reg?
i sort of thought theyd have to be to,abit like the T.B racehorses have to be.
does the racing lot have their own registration thing like the isds?
im confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interestingly I spoke to the gentlemen who qualified two littermates for the Pup of the Year (a real achievemetn when you consider there were 31 qualifiesrs having beaten around 10,000 dogs in the process).  the Greyhound breeders only breed rarely, and often keep several pups from the litter, as they know how many racers there are that need homes, even though they look uite a bit different they encourage potyentail owners to give a rescuye a home, and really there is very little interest in buying a Greyhound puppy except for real breed enthusiasts.  Amazing that they can still produce such quality with such limitaions.

strange that the KC is trying to promote the breed then! they would be better off trying to help sort out the racing lot!
afterall think off the revenue if they had to be KC registered before they raced?????????????

Out of interest how is it that if racing greyhounds aren't KC reg ex racers are shown at Crufts?

dunno, the fact that there were only 84 registrations in 2003 (this months kennel gazette supplement)made me presumme that they cant be!! i stand to be corrected though,if the racing dogs are infact KCreg

I don't think all racing hounds are reg with the KC but I wonder if they can somehow be registered at a later date since as I said some(albeit only a few) are shown at crufts

Racing greys are registered with the National Greyhound Racing Club and have to have an ear tattoo on registration (wish the KC would do the same). I doubt that many racing greyhounds could be KC regged as their parents would not be KC registered and racing greys & show greys look completely different anyway.

Would be very surprised if an ex-greyhound was shown at Crufts - the diffference in the two types is quite marked :D

If you look at the crufts results or sched you will see a class for racing/coursing dogs.I know one of the dogs entered in this class and she is an ex racer...she was also entered in another breed class....I have also seen her at local open shows and yes I know they are of a very different type.

My Greyhound is an ex-racer and she is now KC registered. I'm showing her at Crufts and she was shown by myself at the Three Counties champ show (In Post Grad bitch) where we beat a show Greyhound bred by one of the top breeders. Any greyhound that is registered with the racing club can be registered with the KC.
All I had to do was contact the Irish Coursing club as she was bred in Ireland and have her ownership transfered to me and they sent me her 5 generation pedigree. I then sent that with the relevent form to the KC and she was registered!
I only registered her as I had been showing her for a couple of years at exemption shows and she was doing really well and I wanted to try her at the next level. I was very proud of her when she beat that show greyhound as it proves some of them can do well in showing!

Lisa well done with your racing bitch what is her racing name?  I will be watching the racing class at Crufts
- By GreyhoundLover [gb] Date 09.01.05 22:04 UTC
Thanks! Her racing name is Kew Park Gem. Didn't really expect to beat anyone at three Counties so it was a real shock! Looking forward to going to Crufts- its been a dream of mine to show there for years, always been a spectator. You'll be able to spot my Greyhound as she is black with white flecks which is quite unusual. Hope to see some of you there!
