Reading Dylans thread had me nodding in agreement. I've gained two stone and I'm desperate to shift it but motivation is a problem. I feel like instead of eating I should just glue it on my thighs.
What diets have you all tried? Recommend any in particular?
A colleague gave me details of the cabbage soup diet but I didn't fancy it :(
Day One:
Fruit: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks- unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water.
Day Two:
Vegetables: Eat until you are stuffed will all fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat leafy green vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today.
Day Three:
Mix Days One and Two: Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No Baked Potato.
Day Four:
Bananas and Skim Milk: Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you would like on this day, along with your soup. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.
Day Five:
Beef And Tomatos: Ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomtoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (but absolutely no skin-on chicken). If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef one one of the beef days (but not both).
Day Six:
Beef and Vegetables: Eat to your heart's content of beef and vegetables this day. You can even have 2 or 3 steaks if you like, with leafy green vegetables. No Baked Potato. Eat your soup at least once.
Day Seven:
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables: Again stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day.
Apparently the flatulance is horrendous...

Isn't that the diet that's designed for people that are waiting for heart surgery and have to loose weight quickly?
Personally I wouldn't recommend any diet like the cabbage soup one. The chances are, you'll fail and put back on whatever you loose, if not more.
The best weight loss is a slow one. Aim to loose 1/2lb-2lb a week. I know it doesn't seem a lot, and it also seems like it's going to take forever, but this way, it stays off.
I recommend Weight Watchers. It worked for me :)

Ditto :D :D
You could use all those things mixed together on weight watchers, and lots more appetizing food too.

Yeah, and a damn sight less gassy too :D :D
abot 7 years ago i lost 5 and a half stone on weight watchers and stayed about 8 and a half to 9 stone untill i got pregnant with my youngest daughter whos now 3 after i had her i went up tp 12 and a half stone and it took me 18 months to get to 9 and a half .i did this with just healthy eating i had special k for breakfast tuna or chicken saled for dinner with ww bread a ww meal with loads of veg for tea,and if i fancied chocolate at night i would have an opions drink, and id drink plenty of water it is true water does fill you up!!!!.the problem is this time i dont seem to have any motivation i know what to do but i just carnt resist tempation and as for excersice i hate it ive promised myself ill never let myself get to 11 stone ever again, guess what im 10 13lbs HELP!!!!!
I'm thinking of joining weight watchers online, dont have much time or inclanation to go to meetings but have spent all day on their community forums and there seems to be a pretty good support network there, lots of people getting "buddies" to help them + I have family for support as my mum wants to go on a diet too.
My motivation is looking in the mirror and feeling my clothes getting tighter and tighter :-( Now i just need the money to join... I have to say i like the idea of the points system and last time my mum was on it i saw how much she actually ate seemed a lot better than some of these starve yourself diets.
Think i remember my brother trying that cabbage soup diet, didnt look very nice at all
I've gotta be honest, dont understand the point in all this fat club stuff - the £4-5 you pay a week would more or less pay for your membership to a small gym which im certian would have a more posetive effect on weight loss that a class ever could......
Andy i go to the gym as well but hasnt had the worlds greatest effect, does make me feel fitter but not lose the weight so much, better for toning you up as you lose the weight - am no good at doing it myself i need more willpower and support - i'm going to do the 3 month membership and see how i get on with that........never tried anything like WW vefore though

Hi greatbritgirl,
you do not need to join weightwatchers to get all of the diet plans etc. There is a 'shop' bit on the website and you can order journals (I think they are approx £3) and last for 3 months each and points books for almost every food you will find in the shops including supermarket own brands and there is also an eating out guide which gives you approximate points for eating out or ordering takeaways. The eating out book even covers some of the bigger pub chains so you know exactly how many points you are eating and it covers alcoholic drinks. I think that the only reason to sign up to the horrendous weigh-in shame bit of meetings is if getting your weight read out in public every week is the only motivation for you to lose weight. Otherwise if you are motivated enough you can do it on the cheap with weight watchers and still get some of the recipies e.g. no points soup

I always said the ame and spent the last 10 years overweight. The meetings really do help you as you get so much support from other members, and it is great to know your not alone. None of my family have trouble wtih their weight (or more to the point with balnacing their appetite and body needs).
I started at the Guym when I reahced 11 1/2 stone (having lost 4stone), but it didn't help with the weight at all, but is vital for toneing. Haven't been for a few weeks as can't find the spare cash.
Also once you reach goal with weight watchers you never have to pay again as long as you don't go more than 5 pounds over. My goal weight is 10 stone 5lbs, but I try to keep around the 10 stone mark whcih gives me more leeway.

Andy, the gym is a great idea for toning up, but it's no good regarding weight loss if you're still consuming the same amount of calories!!!

That is the point it isn't a diet plan, you choose what you eat, as long as you keep in your points. The only esseentials arte that you eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, and take in the equivalent of a pint of milk a day(this could be two yogurts, cheese etc), and that you drink plenty of wtyer (around 8 glasses).
All food is pointed depending on it's calorie and saturated fat content.
At 10 stone or less you are on 18 points(if your male you get 4 points more). As an example of todays food intake.
30g of Porridge Oats 1.5pnts. 1/2 Pint Skimmed Milk 1 pt. 30g Sultanas 1pt. Apple 0.5pt, 2 small Satsumas 0.5pt, 100g very low fat Fromage Frais 0.5pt, 200g Potatoes 2pts, small chicken Breast (90g)1.5pts. I also had free food, Swede cooked and mashed in with my Potatoes, with Onion. Cucumber with Fromage Frais as the dressing. Also Tomatoe on a small roll 2pts with low fat cheese Trangle 0.5pt. That still left me with 6 points to use.
The half pint of milk, Fromage Frais and Cheese Triangle made up my Calcium, and I had the vegetables and fruit.
I had brekkie Porridge and the Satsumas to follow.
Lunch Roll with cheese spread and Tomatoe.
Dinner Mash (Potatoe, Swede and sweated Onion) wioth Chicken Breast and Cucumber Raita.
Snack/Dessert Stewed Apple with Sultanas, rest of the Fromage Frais sweetened and flavoured with Cinnamon.

I'm not planning a particular diet but have resolved to stop being so lazy when I'm on the phone. I'm going to start multi-tasking i.e. talking on phone and cleaning the house and I bought one of those lateral thigh trainer step machines and I'm going to use that when I'm on the phone instead of lazing on the sofa with one eye on the tv. I'm also going to stop buying crisps and chocolate because if they are not in the house I can't eat them - although that sounds obvious I often convince myself in the shop that the ice cream, crisps and chocolate are for emergencies or if anybody comes round but end up scoffing them myself. I know that to lose weight I should eat less and exercise more but am ever hopeful for a fat eating miracle to appear. Good luck to everyone who is battling with losing the pounds at the moment.
Diets bore me senseless, or rather living with a mother who tries them bores me senseless, especially when she comes home complaining about them, especially weight watchers, mostly about how they were all 'best friend'ish and it irritated her, can't please some people.
I could do with a diet, or more exercise to deal with my current diet, in order to get out of this 'surplus' state XD

I've yet to find anyone who has kept the weight off, that they have lost with Weightwatchers etc (long-term - say 5 years) :) I'm sure that there are some out there tho' :)
Eating sensibly and lots of exercise is the only way long-term :) :)

Well, I've kept my weight off for nearly 3 years, give or take a few pounds. :)
For those who don't want to follow the weightwatchers eating plan, write down everything you eat (and drink), from when you get up, to when you go to bed, and BE HONEST!!!
You'll be amazed at what you're eating throughout the day, and what cr*p you can do without :)
Instead of buying the plans of the internet why dont you join a WW and then get all the stuff and not go back again!

I bought the Slimming World books, explaining the plan and recipe books, from ebay at a fraction of the price.
I lost 2 stone last year in the end on my diet. I had lost 2.5 stone but ended up putting the half back on.
Still, this hasn't stopped me - I'm still 2 stone lighter than I was this time last year and my aim is to lose another 2 stone this year. That will take me to 9 stone - I don't think I've been 9 stone for over 10 years!!!!!
I'm sticking to a sensible eating diet, low cal and low fat with the odd week of Atkins thrown in. I've found that the odd week of Atkins helps me along the way and doing it combined with the rest of the time healthy eating you do keep the weight off and it just helps to motivate me if I've got stuck on a weight eating normally.
Good luck everyone for 2005 diets!!!

how are all the diets going? im still on mine,(week & a half now!!!!! blimey!),its going ok,havent weighed myself yet.....not ready for that yet(will weigh myself WHEN i get get into my size 12 jeans!)
my clothes are feeling looser (well the big ones are! :D ) & some bones are reappearing,ie the hip bones, which i havent seen in a while!
im 30 this year,so would like to look good for then
hpow are all you doing.....cos i may need some remotivation!
hi michelled i think im doing well, started mine on sunday i havent had a biscuit or chocolate ive been having salad for dinner and veg and a weight watchers meal or 99% fat free noodles for tea i havent really had time to think about being hungry with just having 13 puppys and my own 5 so being busy is helping alot i have been on the scales this morning i was 11 stone on sunday morning today im 10.11 i just keep thinking to myself i want to be thin for summer!!!!!!!!!!!

oh well done!
i try not to EVER weigh myself, cos if i start im on the scales about a million times aday "to see how im doing" & im sure thats not healthy behaviour!
i mainly try to try on a certain pair of trousers each day,to judge how im doing, which works for me.
i was always a really fat kid from a fat family.....blame the genes!
when i was 16/17 lost all my excess weight and stabilised around 10-10 1/2stone (im 5ft8) for years. sometimes less sometimes abit more.but its hard & i have to work at it.(i haVE BEEN 9STONE but mygod it nearly killed me!)
actually im sure that naturally im about a size 16.....yet i look best as a 12 (in my opinion!!!)so im constantly struggling with a body that wants to be two sizes bigger than i want to be!-sigh
anyway a year & a half ago i was a bridesmaid, had two other bridesmaids, one a tall skinny modeltype one a tiny petite phillipino girl.& in a PINK dress so i made a huge effort & looked lovely & slim in the photos!-phew!
however it sort of pushed me too far & then have just eaten what ive wanted to for a year & a half & ive just got bigger & bigger.still its been nice to have a rest for a while......but now sadly...its time to sort it out!!!
good luck michelled you can do it !!you are the same as me i was always a fat child and when i got married i had a size 20 wedding dress the photos made me cry so i started to loose, and just before i had my first daughter i was 10 stone then after my second daughter i managed to get down to 8 and a half stone and a size 10 clothesand i stayed that weight untill about three years ago then i had another daughter and since her ive stayed between 10 and 10 and a half stone untill recently ive gone to 11 so this calls for desperate measures i would be happy at 9 and a half i think that weight will suit me but its hard work i carnt resist chocolate its always my down fall

that was a brilliant achievement!
what height are you?
im a dumpling only 5ft 3in

i wish i was shorter,i always feel big cos im big boned,im never going to be a "delicute" type

Hey Michelled...you sound like me!! I am 30 this year too!! so also thought it would be best to start my 30's the way I mean to go on and carrying extra weight as you get older is a no no isnt it!!..I have just started slimming world online..again..I lost quite a bit of weight a couple of years ago for wedding..was also made redundant which helped shift the pounds..the gradually a good stone and a half has crept on again in the last 18 months..hmm and clothes are small!!
I find slimming world good, I need lots of food and I like the fact that I can have a HUGE dish of food..also trying to get to the gym twice a week to help tone and shift it..I know it will be hard but I am determined to shift 2 stone..hopefully most of it by summer...by then I am also hoping that I will have developed better eating habits instead of throwing as much down my throat as poss!!!
lots of luck everyone...we can do it!!!
kelliexx

oh at least im not alone!
three years ago i went to the gym for a year & got really addicted.ended up going for 1-2hours each day!!!!!stopped going cos i want to spend my free time with the dogs not in a gym....sigh so this time will just have to starve instead!!!!
my mother does slimming world quite abit, but its not for me!!!!-i hate following rules & guidelines & ALWAYS look for ways to cheat!
i just try to eat as little as possible each day & when i have a meal try to make it as healthy & filling as possible.
about 4 years ago i did atkins on & off for a year.which worked LOVELY,but i juast cant face doing it again!
god ive got till mid april to lose it!!when is your bday?
ALSO the BIGGEST danger to fatties is in my opinion TRACKSUIT bottoms, they let you get bigger & bigger without getting tight......tres dangerous!!!!!
well im past my sell by date i was 32 last november im a bit late,i agree with michelled the best way for me is to eat as little as possible ive tried slimmingworld but only lost half a ib in 2 weeks so i gave that up as for the gym i carnt stand the thought i ve got a strider and one of those elecptical (sp)walker things and an abdominal thing and a proper weightbech thingy altough thats more hubbys than mine but i hardly ever use them they just collect dust in the spare room i need motivation!!

once i got one of those things with little pads that give your muscles electric shocks!!!,it was quite good& did work BUT it was such a hassle putting all those pads on,so when the gel ran out i never replaced it.
we are the same !i had one of those i was so desperate for it to work i used to go to bed with it on i trew mine away in the end

did you ever by those pens that you sniff? which were meant to supress hunger????-didnt work!!!
if i could win the lottery id defintally have lipo

my motivation is to see a improvement as soon as possible,if i can get through the 1st month im sorted out......its just hard to not give up!!!!
i keep saying "fat & 30" "fat & 30" over & over!!!!
it could be worse you could be saying fat and forty, fat and forty!!!

lol! will be in 10 years time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :D :D :D ;)
no never tryed the pens but i think ive tryed everything else slimming pills, slimfast every diet going every exercise machine they sell on sky the lot !!

its horrible
I wish I was skinny! hubby is skinny not even 10 stone and 6ft..its not fair!!
I will be 30 in November..so a while to go I suppose......really not looking forward to it tho!! :-(

youve got 7 months more than me "to get sorted"
how much do you want to lose. i want to drop 2 dress sizes, then i can put abit more on when i stop!!!!!thats a bout a zillion stone!

I put on 9 1/2 pounds over christmas - which puts me over 12 stone, my biggest yet

So I have nearly 3 stone to lose, the thing is though I still fit into my size 12 jeans so I havent a clue where the weight has gone - must be in that 2nd chin that has appeared :D :D :D
Three years until im 30 though so ive got a while to lose it ;)

dont put the "evil" tracksuit bottoms on BB,they will make it worse!!!!!!!
ive spent all christmas in my joggie bottoms they are the only things that feel comfy but today i had to put jeans on cause im behind with my washing with the puppys comming i did manage to fasten them but hubby says it looks like ive sprayed them on!!!!!!!

I own ONE pair of tracky bottoms and have never and will never look good in them - in fact I never where them outside of the house :D :D

i put mine on when i know my other clothes are going to be too depressing!!! & therefore never face up to it!
at xmas i put on my "smart" pjamas & THEY were tight!!!! OMG im too big for PJs thats really not funny....stop laughing!

no you arent too big for PJ's, whats happened is that your PJ's must have shrunk in the wash ;)

Could we all state our height and weight (honestly).....:D
I'm 5'6" and I'm 10st. I'm usually between 8st & 9st and have acquired the extra stone over the last couple of months. I wasn't too bothered until I started struggling to get rid of it and noticed the odd pound adding on. Usually a good walk and a short famine knocks the pounds off but not so this time.
The fellas at work reckon skipping with a rope for 3mins daily will knock it off in no time, but it's alot harder than it sounds gasp, cough, stagger, gasp.

5ft 3in (a midget ;) ) and 12stone 5 pounds im ashamed to say :(
Go with the skipping, I used to do a skipping areobics class and it worked wonders :)

Don't be ashamed. It depends how you carry it doesn't it. I have skinny ankles/wrists, all the weight goes on the belly and chin, I feel like a troll doll. Coming from a family of midgets (Mum 5'1", sis 4'11") I'll confess I lied to make myself sound skinnier :D I'm 5'4" LOL :D
