Just bought a new car today after finding it advertised online on a reputable site.  Motivation for changing "good old reliable" car was primarily more space required (for dogs!) and air conditioning (for dogs!).  Diesel (for travelling to dog shows) was a big incentive too!

Now we have discovered it doesn't actually have air conditioning and web advert has been changed (air con deleted) since paying deposit on Monday and collecting car today.

We've convinced ourselves that air conditioning isn't "everything" and we've managed perfectly well without so far, but we're curious to know what other people's opinions are about this..?  Is the car dealer at fault here or are we just stupid in that we didn't pick up on this fact (we even took it for a test drive) and still didn't notice the lack of air conditioning?!!! So it was already cold!;-)

Not looking for an argument with the dealer and certainly pleased with car (so far) otherwise but can't help feeling "a little peeved" !!

Financial compensation would be nice - then we can blow it all on entry fees for the shows!!! :-)

I know how you feel having bought a new to me Astra Diesel estate,
Mine was advertised on the web as having ABS and Electric mirrors, FSH etc.
It has none of the above.
However the car dealer now has a sneaky small print on the website that they take no responsibility for any errors
that are on the website as they don't do the website info a 3rd party does it for them..
I have the orginal advert with no small print.
I felt pretty daft when my mechanic pointed out that it didn't have ABS...
I think technically you can reject the car but then there's all the hassle that goes with it and the search for
another car etc.
Financial compensation - You may be lucky and the dealer may give you something back as Air-con is a valuable
extra, that you may have paid 'extra' for. But I didn't get anything off the purchase price of my car despite it being mis-represented
as having the extra's it doesn't have.

I've just decided that Blue is definately not a lucky car colour for me! All the Blue cars that I've owned have been trouble.
Good Luck :)

If you are sure that the ad said Air con then speak to them about it.  It will be a case of how you handle them I guess , They are not legally obligated to give you any compensation ( unless you can prove that the ad did exist and that  it affects the value of the car by a huge or reasonable amount)  They would have been obligated to give you your deposit back and set you free from you obligation to buy the car if you noticed between leaving the deposit and actually paying the final amount and collecting seeing as the Air con was material in your decision to buy the car.   If you can prove the ad was as you say you may have a case for them taking the car back from you.   Compensation is always a toughy as the amounts are measured in how much you have actually lost , they may argue you have not lost anything in monetary terms.

Dealers or at least some need the sales so badly they may could offer you some extras as a goodwill gesture.

The problem always lies with proving you have been misled afterwards. Could you not find out from the advertising site when they changed the ad if they can tell when it was changed you would at least have some bargaining power.  Thing is what the law says and how it is implimented is TWO very different things. People are stung everyday as it is so hard to do anything about it.

Probably went round in circles a bit here but my point is really to speak to them and see if you can get a freindly resolution you may want they to help you out in the future with car trouble so best to stay on their side.
