just been for scan no pups again as this is second time i,ve tried is there any way if i can tell if there is anything wrong with my bitch?

Did you use the same dog both times? Even with a proven stud, sometimes the bitch does not "gel". Also, did she have a course of antibiotics prior to mating? She may have a slight infection which wont necessarily cause problems apart from when mated.

Did you have several matings or did you get a Premate done?  If you just took the bitch a couple of times to be mated at the usual time you could have got the day completely wrong. 

A couple of years ago a bitch missed to one of my dogs, and the next season we had a mating every other day from day 9 until she completely lost interest on day 16.  That time she had puppies.  Another time a bitch missed, despite being very keen at the time of the 2 matings.  Because of the distance the owner had to travel, she had a Premate done the next season and they showed the bitch wasn't ready until about day 19 or 20.  That time she had a litter.  We could have gone on mating the bitch on days 11 and 13 for ever and she would never have produced puppies.

Also, as Fillis says, a course of antibiotics before mating will also help - I guess you are about ready to try anything by now!

Sorry welshie this happened to me just weeks ago. At the time the whole family were heartbroken. Better luck in the future.

This happened to me, too. Though my bitch had to have a section for her first (and only) litter. One of the pups was stuck across the birth canal preventing the others from being born. I have no proof that it was the scarring that stopped her having any more, but I decided not to try again. Others on here at the time said that I should try a different dog, but I just couldn't face the heartache. I hopr you are successful if you try again.

It's not that unusual, some sort of Sod's law, the more you want a bitch to have pups, the less likely she is to produce. But if you have a mismating - she'll definitely be in whelp! Seriously, one of my bitches missed twice to 2 different dogs. The 3rd time (desperation!) I took her to a 13yr old dog and she had 6 pups.

two things here - perhaps the bitch was not ready. I know of a bitch who was only ever ready on about day 20 as said in an earlier post, and when mated then had 10 pups. Are you also confident of the scan results. My friend, a very experienced breeder had her bitch scanned and told no pups, but the second scan almost 2 weeks later showed quite a few pups.

I agree ManxPat.  I posted on here a few weeks ago because someone had her bitch scanned at 19 or 21 days post matings, and was told there were no puppies.  I have no experience of scans but thought this was too early to be sure.  Well 10 days later, from the symptoms she related over the phone, I was convinced the bitch was pregnant, and a re-scan showed "quite a few"!
