My bitch had ten pups 6 days ago. I made a cardbord whelping box.  She has started trying to move the box and seems very distressed.
Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks

Is she in a quiet place, out of the way of people walking past all the time??  Also are you giving her calcium supplements, don't want to worry you but eclampsia can happen during the first few weeks of feeding.  She has a large litter to feed so needs to keep her diet good, is she eating and drinking well??

I have two litters here at the moment, one of which we are hand rearing because mum doesn't have any milk...........she started getting very distressed when she couldn't feed, do the pups seem ok? not dehydrated etc?

She gave up on trying to move box.  She has moved them to the family room sofa.  What should I do know?   I have not given her any cal. supp. but will do so immediately.  Not to sound too nieve, what are the signs that she is having trouble feeding all pups.  I recently have become concerned about one.  He's quite smaller than others.

Weigh every pup every day until you are confident they are all OK. Write the weights of each one down on a chart - identifying each puppy individually. If you think one is not doing well, then it probably isn't, so act now and make sure it gets onto one of the best teats each time they all latch on.  It's no good putting it onto a teat on its own, you have to do it with the others when they pull the milk down.  Also, top it up with a bottle several times a day starting NOW.  When you pinch its skin, does it seem dehydrated?  Does its stomach seem emptier than the others?
