hi ive been asked this question so many times by people but i still dont know the answer myself when i brought codey the woman emailed me a pic of her when i saw she was all white i asked her if she had a pic of her parents but she said no but she told me that codeys mother was white down to her chest then the rest black and her dad was just an original black and white.
ive been asked how did i get a white dog from black and white parents i thought that you could only get a white dog from merle parents but codey as a black patch on er backside and black spotted ears does anyone know why this is

its quite common especially if one of the parents is very dark. what colour are her eyes?

have a look here
collie cornerall sorts of lovely colours including mainly whites

That about the parents parents? (grandparents to white pups) If these were mearles this could be the reason. Mother nature does throw in thiongs all over the place now and then!
I always thought that BC's that were all white tended to be deaf, is that true?

They are more at ridk of being, and border collie litters should be BAER tested, especially if there is a lot of white in the breeding/pups.

both of codeys eyes are brown im not sure what colour her grandparents were but i dont think they were both merles if codeys parents are both black and white but then again i could be wrong.
my girl isnt deaf (though at times i think she is as she doesnt listen to anythin we say lol) but i know that white border collies are at a higher risk than black and white ones its strange

if shes black & white (or white or black! ;) ) then shes not a merle,
deafness in collies falls across all colours sadly.
none of the "mainly" whites ive met have been deaf.the last deaf dog i met was a totally classic B&W,ironically with huge ears bless her!
did you look on that site kerrie?
I suppose its the same as any characteristic. My youngest is a short coated B&W with sticky up ears like satelites and yet both mum and dad are long coated B&W with dangly ears. Wouldnt change him though.

bc's can also be 'white factored' and will carry a lot of white, if you mate 2 white factored dogs you will get predominantly white collies, hence why when breeding collies, its not a case of any old two will do!!!!
white factoring is when the white on their chest follows down through their underneath and down their legs to their hock.
we had a litter 2 years ago, one of the pups is white factored, so if we decide to use him with a bitch in the future, we will have to check that her line isnt white factored,
hope thats a bit easier to understand!

Hi i have two blue merle pups,in the litter there was 4 blue merle and two tri the mother was a merle and the farther a black and white,it goes on what the generations passed you can get all kind of colour coming through if you go on to google and look up blue merle puppies or border collie puppies it will show you there the type of colour collies and it also shows you the line of the generations and what colours will come through jen
