Blue German Shepherds are very rare, if none at all in this country. As far as I know the only breeders are in the U.S

Hi,

There are breeders of GSD'S in Scotland that have had the blue colour in their litters /lines.I have a friend in Scotland who has blue GSD from an excellent breeder.I also believe there to be some around the Norfolk area.
I'm sure if you contact any GSD breed club/council or any good GSD breeder they will able to put you in touch with someone with a blue in the litter.

Good luck

Briony :-)

They are not rare at all all it needs a couple lines to a carrier of the blue gene like In Ch Rosehurst Chris on both sides of the pedigree for there to be one or more blues in the litter

Beware of a breeder who breeds especially for these"rare"colour they will be breeding for the money instead of breeding for the improvement of the breed

Anyone who breeds for coat type or colour does not IMHO have the improvement of the breed at heart, we have a local breeder who has gone from "whites(hers are a creamy/brown colour) to having the sable pattern in her litters she calls them champagne sables & charges the earth for them, her daughter has just mated one of her bitches to a half brother to get white sables-pity that the bitch is an epileptic & has at least one fit every day !

Sorry, my mistake. A friend of mine was looking for a blue GSD a while ago, and she couldn't find a breeder. She was told that they're rare in this country and she would have a better chance of finding a breeder in the U.S :(

Hi
I have a long haired blue german shepard she is lovely, I didn't intentionaly look for a blue I had been looking around for a while for a long haired shepard but hadn't managed to find what I was looking for, I rang my local vets in the end and they gave me a phone number so I could get a list of breeders. One of the breeders I rang said he had a couple of blue puppies I had never heard of blues, so went to look out of curiosity they were lovely so we went back a few weeks later to pick her up!!! She is 2 and a half now.
I know blues and long coats are a fault in the breed standerd but she is a pet I never had any intention of showing her so it doesn't make any differnce to me.
I will email you with the breeders details I dont know if he will have any blues but its worth a try, I also know that the mother the litter mine came from wont be having any more pups.

You could look around for litters with Rosehurst Chris on both sides of the pedigree as he was a carrier of blue & the puppies that occur tend to be of a good type that just happen to be blue in colour, not my choice as I prefer the black or gray(sable in the uk)but as long as they are healthy from well bred & tested parents they are still GSDs. It is when people get into breeding for the colour or coat type alone that problems occur
