Hi, are cooked bones ok for dogs as i gave cooked turkey bones as a christmas treat and they both had the runs the next day luckily there back to normal now they are fed pedigree adult dry complete.

All advice says stay away from cooked bones. I think it's mainly for the fact that they can splinter etc and tear stomach linings? As long as they are back to normal I would assume they ate them with no ill effects, but the risk isn't really worth it in the future. I suppose if you ground up the cooked bone then it would be ok (only guessing). But raw bones are really the only ones you can safely feed whole, although the marrow in them can be too rich for some dogs and will cause diaorrhea anyway (especially lamb I think).

HTH   :-)

No, cooked bones become very sharp and brittle and can prove lethal.

Cooked bones no - and cooked bones from chicken, turkey or any other fowl please never ever!!  Those are the cooked ones that splinter the worst.

Having said that mine have gotten hold of them once and had no ill effects, but not worth the risk.

NO cooked bones from lamb either please...a friend of mine had to get her KC spaniel put down after it had a large lamb bone (it didn't eat very much of it either) which appeared to puncture the gut.  My friend knew no better and learned the hard way.....NO cooked bones of ANY kind I would say!

RAW bones are a valuable and nutritious part of a canines diet,no dog should be deprived of a big juicy bone on a regular basis!
As the others have said cooked bones are a whole other kettle of fish, they become de-natured when cooked and can do untold damage to a dog :(
