My friend has 2 dogs and put then into a local boarding kennel for one night. She dropped them off on the sunday morning and collected them on the Monday morning. She took them for a walk but as the male was running back towards her she noticed something wrong with his mouth, on looking she saw that 2 of his front teeth were sticking straight out to the front.  She went straight back to the kennels and demanded to know what had happened and showed the kennel owner the problem. They said they didnt know. Luckily a vet was at the kennels and took a look.  She said it looked like a kennel injury and that they had a specialist dental vet at the surgery where she could take him.  The following day at the surgery he was prescribed AB's and told to return on the thursday to see the specialist vet.  The specialist said he had been told it was a kennel injury and he operated and had to remove the teeth and wants to see the dog again in a few weeks to make sure that his jaw hasnt been damaged. My friend was told be the vets surgery that the kennels were paying for the operation (just under £1,000) and that the cost of the AB's was to be refunded to her as they were paying for those too.  Then yesterday my friend had a call from the kennel owner who said that they would only pay the bill if she signed a letter to say that she would take no further action.  But what if the dog needs further surgery as a result of the injury.  I have told her not to sign anything and to get a copy of the dogs medical records and a letter from the specialist vet who said it was kennel injury.  What are your thoughts.

By the way the kennels are Willowsley Farm Kennels near to Heathrow Airport. apparently they are import and export kennels too. Has anyone any experience of them?

Thanks
Lynn

I've no experience of those kennels but I'd not be signing anything till I'd seen a copy of the kennels insurance certificates and a detailed medical record from the specialist -she should also make a note of the time and day that the kennel owner asked her to sign the disclaimer

Hi Lynn

When the vet says kennel injury, how could it have been caused?

I would consult a solicitor and not sign anything. HTH

It is not known for sure how his injury could have been caused, they have mesh  bars and we wonder if he could have caught his jaw on there, but as I havent seen the set up I dont know.  The vet is familiar with the kennels as she is a regular visitor so I am led to believe.  I will find out if they take the dogs for walks or anything, not something I thought to ask my friend last night.  Its a good job he isnt a show dog as his career would be over.
