Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Any experience of Wafcol

Hi,

Does anyone have any knowledge or practical experience of Wafcol's Salmon & Corn junior diet and also of their adult Salmon and Potato Diet?

I'd specifically like to know if they are of good quality, highly pallatible for the dogs  but any tips, concerns or advice for or against would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Teri :)

I used Wafcol for Hudson before we changed over to BARF and he got on really well with it....very good quality and Hudson liked it :)

Thanks Melodysk ;)

Did you use either of the recipes mentioned?  I only ask because I'm not sure how good either would be for putting on body - I'm trying to stay to maximum of two single source ingredients for trial diet and finding JWB (initially lamb and Rice and for about 3 weeks their Turkey & Rice) no help weight wise :(

Regards, Teri :)

Well Hudson managed to put on weight but that isn't too difficult with a Malamute :D :D I didn't use those particular recipes, no, we stuck to the lamb and rice I think.

We had to take him off the JWB that he was on as his was suffering from runny poos...the wafcol firmed him up. Of course, it isn't the same for all dogs :)

Cheers again Melodysk - that's the problem I'm finding with the JWB too so hopefully a change over will sort that out.

Regards, Teri ;)

Anyone happen to know stockists in West Central Scotland for Wafcol's Junior complete?  Pets at Home only sell adult version and we're not exactly inundated with pet shops in my area   Believe it or not Wafcol themselves can't provide this info

Thanks in advance,

Teri :)

Hi teri, I did use this on my girl a few yaers ago because she has a food allergy. I used the fish and corn and the salmon and potato, they are the only two that I have used, weight wise it was great and she was in beautiful condition. She was an extremely fussy eater but with it being salmon she ate it like a pig, the only problem was it absolutely stunk lol. It is a very strong smelling food and afterwards she had smelly breathy, but I suppose the stronger the smell the more likely they are to eat it lol

Hope this helps

Thanks Amy - it's such a nightmare switching foods to a brand when you've no personal experience of it, certainly when the switch is for the purpose of problem solving

I've got a real picky eater here but with a sensitive tummy and so simple but "megga smelly" ingredients sounds promising :D   Just got to track the darn stuff down now - and before Xmas :(

Thanks for your input,
Regards, Teri

Hi Teri- have you tried any of the online petstores that deliver?  I have used k9capers and have found them to be very reliable-they have free delivery too, although I'm not sure how their prices compare to other stores, but they do have the junior food!  Hope that helps :)

Hi Kay & also Shevock,

Thanks to both for your replies :)  Have tried the online link you sent Kay and missed the pre-Xmas delivery unfortunately but it's obviously worth me bearing in mind for future reference.

Have managed to track down a local grain store who stock the many and varied adult formulations and who reckon they can get me a delivery of the junior version for this coming Friday - so fingers and everything else are currently firmly crossed ;)  Failing that I'm going to bite the bullet and get the adult salmon and potato (I can buy that locally easily) - my girl's obviously not getting the best out of the JWB junior/performance anyway the fact that she's so loose on it and I don't want her losing any more body weight and over all condition but I'd be happier with the junior (I think anyway - bit worried about grains tho  )

Anyway, thanks again - ANY advice or assistance will be greatfully received so if there's anyone else with some feedback, for or against, please feel free to jump in ;)

Regards, Teri

Your vet could order it for you

I am using the Salmon and Potatoe diet, on my vets advice, for my fussy Cavalier King Charles who has allergy probs and my Lab who gets a funny tummy.  They both love it and i have found it great.
I get it from Pets at Home.

Hi Bevb,

Thanks for vote of confidence on Wafcol ;)  Couldn't get an order for the junior variety in stock anywhere or that could be delivered by anyone pre-Xmas so bought the adult formulation of Salmon & Potato from Pets at Home.   So far it's going down a treat but because I'm having to switch off JWB immediately I don't know yet if it will solve tummy upset (immediate diet change obviously hasn't helped :( ) but will keep everything crossed.  At least she's eating - what little she was taking in of JWB was going straight through and it really was VERY little she would eat off my hand

Happy Christmas, thanks for your input

Please check if your dog is not allergic to Soya. Angus the Westie is and when he was fed on Wafcol the poor little lad was scratching himself silly. The vet did an allergy test and found it was the soya. Since we've been feeding him on non-soya based products he is fine. Best check the with your vet and also the ingrediants in the Wafcol you are using.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply and info.  The Wafcol diet I've chosen is soya free - it is the salmon and potato ultra hypoallergenic diet.  We've now been on it almost a week and so far she absolutely loves it, her dicky tummy has settled right down so fingers crossed.

Cheers, Teri ;)
