If someone had an inkling that they might have been adopted - how would they find out?
Would they have a different Birth Certificate?

I am adopted - I had to apply for my 'proper' birth certificate, as opposed to the certificate of adoption which is what my adoptive parents used to get passports etc. The certificate of adoption is granted after a court hearing. My 'proper' birth certificate gives my birth mother's details, but nothing for my birth father.
HTH if you need to ask any more, please feel free to email fran_whelan@hotmail.com
i am adopted, my adoption certificate is my 'birth certificate' and when im asked for birth certificate i have to show my adoption one as my original is no longer a legal document.
the adoption certificate has date of adoption in it which will be different from date of birth, (trying to remember what is on mine now ), if someone has an inkling that they are adopted they have the right to know social services tell adoptive parents that they should let their children know they are adopted.

I have an adopted son and his only legal documents are the ones I received from the society.
My son is now 27 and he knew from the age of five he was my special child but he never showed any interest in finding anything out.
I would imagine though once your the age, it is no problem to write to the local courts and ask.
