Hiya, firstly, merry Christmas everyone.

Roxy (toy poodle) has been very hangy today.  Earlier on she was quite trembly, but now she's just hanging and wanting to be cuddled all the time.  She's not really eaten much today and I'm unsure whether or not to give her any dinner.  She has been going to the toilet ok.  I don't really think it's something she's eaten as I can't think of anything unusual she's had in the last 24 hours.

All advice greatfully received, I hate to see her like this.

As she is a toy breed I'm wondering if she has Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) you say she hasn't eaten much today?  perhaps she needs something easily digested.  How old is she? How long have you had her?  If she's a puppy perhaps she needs more frequent small meals rather than one/two meal per day.  You coud try her with a little milk with a tsp of glucose in it, if she perks up then she will probably want something to eat.  Strangely low blood sugar can make you feel quite sick! and then less likely to eat so something tasty and tempting should help.  If you try the milk+glucose and she doesn't perk up then she could have an infection somewhere.  one indication of this is a very hot body and markedly cold extremities (feet, ears etc. ) in which case I would get her to  a vet so you can find out what is the matter.

Thanks for advice Dill.  She's fourteen months old.  She seemed to perk up just after I posted this thread and had something to eat and was back to her normal self.  I did try the vet, but as it was a bank holiday they only had an emergency service, so had she got any worse I would have called them out.  If this happens again I will try the glucose and milk or get her to the vet.

Don't they just love to worry us??  I'm glad she's better :D had she had any extra excitement?(christmas would do it ;) )  any extra exercise/play, more then usual?  Had she gone longer than usual without food?  or is she coming into season or just finished one?  I had a bitch who needed a breakfast for a few weeks after having a season, her hormones seemed to make her blood sugar drop and having some extra food seemed to help.  After a few weeks she would go back to one meal per day.  I've also had pups who went shaky after a long hard session playing, a drink of glucose and milk followed by some food and they were ok again :rolleyes:

If its going to happen you can bet it'll be on a bank holiday :rolleyes: :D
