hello there,

I got my staff about 3 month ago from a rescue centre. They didn't know how old he was exactly but they reckon about 10 or 11 month old.  He settled in very well and doesn't seem to have any apparent problems. About 1 or two weeks ago I realise that he was loosing a lot of hair. the vet gave me some shampoo and vitamins but i still don't understand why he would be loosing so his hair!
I thank you in advance for your help.

im not a vet, but if the hair loss is mainly around the chest , legs, and in patches it could be demedetic mange, it is common in staffs, its usually brought on by stress or an imature immune system, ask the vet to test for it, they do this by taking skin scrapings , if she isnt insured it might be a good idea to do this before you start treatment as it is something that can reaccur. A friend of mine used a product called liverine unction on her dog when he got it last year, and she said it cleared up nicely, she got it from a pet shop although ive never seen it in a pet shop near me. good luck x  ps sometimes it takes a few trips to the vets with skin conditions beferoe they actually figure out whats going on!!

Hi Cassey
where is the hairloss?

Thank you for all your responses, they have been reassuring.

Hello lel,

He is losing hair at the back of his back paws and a bit on his chest. You can also see some hair loss on his back but as he's got a lot of hair in this area you have to look closely.
I thought that it could be stress as well because although he settled in quite quickly, we don't really know what his situation was like before we got him. I must say that he was extremly underweight! I can't believe how cruel some people can be!!!!!
