i've decided i want to put my 2 dogs in an outdoor kennel during the day while i'm at home so the kids can play on the floor in peace! the dogs are jrt's one is 2yrs old the other only 9weeks! how old does the little one need to be before i put him outside? i've never owned one so young before. please can anyone help?

Mine have been in the kennel outside since they were born!  As long as it is dry and draught-free and they have warm bedding that is off the floor to avoid draughts, then they will be fine.

I am hoping that you didn't quite mean the way your question was phrased and that you aren't leaving them in the kennel ALL day, just for short periods of time to give children and dogs some space.  Personally, I think this is a good idea - my dogs certainly love having their own space and make the most of it.

Its us humans that have a problem with kennels, not the dogs!

thanks for replying so quickly.i did mean that i'll be putting the dogs out for short periods not all day..(it's the kids i could do with locking out all day to give me some peace!!!) only joking!!?

Why don't you build a kennel for the kids and let the dogs have some peace in the garden!!!! :D ;)

As long as the kennel is warm then it is fine.  my aussie lives in a kennel because he hates being indoors in the warm, he has a 1 bedroom bungalow (hallway and a room) with about 5 layers of carpet, box is risen off the floor, roof is slanted so water doesn't sit on top, water only sits ontop when the roof to the kennel leaks.  and it's all painted in a waterproof paint :)  The dog is spoilt!  and he loves being down there!  Also make sure they have access to water!
