YES.Most cases of asthma are caused my dog dander not fur and hence any breed can cause it

As Archer says it is the dog dander not the fur that most people are allergic to so these people who say that a certain breed can definitely help aren't always correct.  Of course you need to have skin prick tests to see what you are allergic to and what is causing it as it may not be the dog. Another major factor is what type of Asthma you actually have - mine is affected by dust more than anything yet my daughter's is Excercise Induced.

We have 2 Bichons (1 for over 6 years) and have no problems with our Asthma. Yet Cats and some other dogs make a big difference to me or my daughter.

I would suggest that you consider Dogs who do not moult and visit a few friends or breeders who may be prepared to let you handle their dogs and stay in the room for an hour or so. You will know quickly enough then. (at least I do)

I always invite people to come down to my house who have allergies etc. to spend time with my dogs.  I had one family whose son had quite a few allergies and health problems, luckily for them he was fine with the Spanish, but you have to do your homework and be prepared to spend time with breeds that you may be interested in.

My asthma was diagnosed 2 years before they diagnosed my allergy.
When talking to one of my GP's they asked the familiar 'Do you have any pets?'
They tried to blame allergy on my animals especially the cats....

After going private to have the allergy tests done (there was no way I was going to rehome
my pets without finding out what was causing the allergies) as there was over a 12 month waiting
list on the NHS. I have dust mite allergy which could well have caused the asthma in the first place.
Developed Asthma when I was 30 years old.

The allergy specialist said that I was not allergic to any of my pets (he tested for this) but that
the dust mites would be increased in my house as there were more skin scales for dust mites to feed on
(it sounds disgusting but makes sense I suppose). I just have to use a good hoover with HEPA filters (I've got the Dyson animal)
and the OH is supposed to empty the hoover etc etc.

I now have to take a allergy nasal spray every day and when it gets really bad antihistamines and
eye drops when needed. But I still have all my dogs (3 Boxers) and cats (2 semi-longhaired).
