I was just wondering if any of you have ever bred a dog that is on glucosamine/chron.
I am waiting to do a breeding and I have my bitch on supplements.  Does this cause an problem or should I take her off before the breedin?. she is on it preventativly from a past shoulder strain.

thanks very much

I don't consider that a past shoulder strain needs supplements such as these. You would not take a supplement all your life because you strained your shoulder sometime in the past so why give it to your dog? Look at it like this. If your dog needs the supplement then you should not be breeding from her and if she does not then you should not be giving it to her.

All a healthy dog needs to stay healthy is a good balanced diet.

If I've understood it correctly, chomdroitin shoulf not be given in pregnancy - it cuts off the blood vessels supporting the embryos.   Hence its supposed use in arresting tumours.

Agree with John - if a bitch really needs these supplements, she shouldn't be breeding, as this imposes a lot of extra strain on all parts of the body.

ok, Great.  Thanks,  I'll stop using it.  That scares me.  I was told by a few different breeders that they always have their dogs on it that's why I had her on it.
