does anyone who owns a flat coat retriever bitch experience more than the usual 2 seasons a year,  my bitch who is 17 months has just had her third.  The vet can't find anything wrong with her and put it down to her being over sexed possibly because she lives with a dog.  any advice would be gratefully received.

I've known a GSD who came into season every four months. My Labrador Anna comes in every six months rather like your Flatcoat. Six monthly seasons are perfectly normal, if a little inconvenient. What is the spacing between them, even or has it changed after the first? You often find that the first season is not really representative of how the later seasons are spaced. There is nothing in the spacing to show anything wrong, certainly not "Over sexed" Possibly a bit earlier than is convenient but that's bitches for you!

Hi Stuart
We have had Flatcoats for nearly 50 years.  I remember vividly we had a bitch in the 1970s who came into season every 4 months and in the end blew up with a pyometra (not sure on spelling there).  Anyway we had her spayed.

Also a friend of mine has recently had this problem - bitch coming in every 4 to 5 months so she spayed her.  I am not medically minded but would guess that it is a hormonal imbalance or something like that.

well brie comes into season every 4 1/2 months which is nomal for her she has had a litter two years ago she in season now but we have but her on hold and hope to mate her in may 2005.her first season was that 8 month.
wispa brie mum had her first season at 8 month then went every 6 to 7 months but she was spayed in oct due to age of 7 years old and had 3 litters.
teyha is bries half sister her first season was 16 months and only lasted 5 days, her sister diva 1st season was 18 months.
blue is teyha and bries half sister is 7 months know but no sign of come into season yet.still every much a baby,
has you see my 4 fcr are all different but where theres alot of bitches in the household they may all come into season together {not my lot]even my gollies a spanish water dog is 3 years old had her 1st season at 16 month then went another 14 months only two season in 3 years,
so no 2 dog are a like, if there was a infection or sign of any imbalance hormonals then i would have my bitch spayed but brie copes help and it nomal for her.

My 15 month old bitch is on her thrid season.  first two only 16 weeks apart, this one is 21 weeks since last, and I expect the intervals to grasually get longer and into the normal for my bitches pattern of betweeen 27 and 29 weeks between seasons.
