REcently my Maltese Terrier passed away from old age, and now my 2yr old Border Collie female is very lonely, as she has always had company- in the form of dogs. She is visibly upset, so we have undertaken to adopt another dog as soon as possible to keep her company! The problem is this... we were going to adopt Cocker Spaniels only to find out that they are not very suitable to live with Borders, so i would like some advice as to which dogs do mix well with my anti-social lonely Border! Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated :D

Why not get another border collie try border collie rescue i find border collies adictive and my 3 get on great and when i take them for a walk they herd each other up.

EDIT: Also if she is un sociable a male might be better.

I can't see why cockers wouldn't live happily with border collies

Border Collies will live with most breeds or crossbreeds quite happily mine live with rough collies stay quite happily at my Mum and Dads who have Cocker Spaniels and visit with various other breeds no problem. Your girl has obviously lived with your previous dog (sorry for your loss) so unless she has a particular problem then its your choice. It all depends on how she interacts with other dogs.HTH Gillian

I've got cocker spaniels and they would mix and live quite happily with any breed of dog!  Maybe the cockers in question are rescue dogs and not suitable to be rehomed with other dogs in general.

they were not rescue dogs. Well maybe it was not that cockers are not comaptible with B.C's but not compatible with MY border collie, as she loves to have our attention and can be jealous but yet does need canine company!
Thanks for the help everyone!
