Any advice on how to stop our 10 week old pup jumping on the furniture. We have a 3 yr old daughter so all her things are on the chairs and the pup has 2 beds in the front room and all her toys, any opportunity and the pup has something that isn't hers (like Dummies). she still doesn't really respond to her name,so it usally ends in me screaming and a chase begins which is the best part to the pup. How should we try to train the pup that chairs are a no go area.  HELP!!!!!!

With a pup of this age and a young child you really should be supervising them 100% of the time, if you can't supervise you need to have the pup somewhere where she can't get into trouble.  That way she won't learn to do the things you don't want in the first place. This is a lot easier than trying to train her out of something thats very rewarding :)  Can you put her in a large crate or in the kitchen behind a baby gate when you are unable to supervise her? (the pup that is ;) )

Another thing you can try is when she picks up something she shouldn't DON'T CHASE!!  as you have found this is way too much fun for the pup and not very effective :D   Try enticing her with a toy and swap it for what she is carrying, or keep her favourite tiny treats in your pocket and 'swap' them for what she's got.  My pup at the moment is 'retrieving' EVERYTHING and not a retrieving breed  but this is the best game in the world, pup 'finds' something on the floor and brings it to me, I say "Taaaaaa" and she sits and gets a treat/fuss/game :D so she's learning to retrieve and finding all the paper tissues my little one drops for me :D  Downside of this is things get knocked off the coffee table to be 'found' as well LOL :D :D but they're never chewed, and always brought straight to me :D :D

Hi

Watch your pup and as soon as it looks as though she is going to jump up, say OFF, then distract her and call her to you.  If she does get up then just put her back on the floor, say "OFF" as you lift her, "Good Girl" when her feet are on the floor and don't say anything else and keep the physical contact minimal so that she is not getting your attention as a reward for getting on the furniture.  Try to do something that you can praise her for once she is on the floor or distracted from jumping up.

Name - say her name as if she responds give her a treat or game (whichever she prefers).  If I said "RASSUNKF" to you then said it louder and louder it would still would not mean a thing - the same thing happens when you are talking to your pup.  It takes time for her to learn her name and the various commands and at ten weeks she is still very much a baby with a minimal memory although they can learn their names very quickly if they are not used so often that the name/sound becomes part of the background.

Never chase - sit on the floor and talk to the carpet, ignoring the pup, she will probably soon come and see what you are doing

We have been saying off and putting her on the floor consistently and it seems to be working already. Just got to get used to the speed in which she can chew through wires,( broke 2 toys already while i was right there) Thanks for all advice,  can't wait for puppy parties to start in the new year!!
