has anyone knowledgeble with stud dogs have an opinion on a dog being used on consecutive days on two different bitches, with respect to quality and fertility of sperm.

If the dog had only mated the other bitch once on the previous day (rather than over a period of a few days several times) then you should get a perfectly fertile mating, but obviously his reserves would grdually be depletd and not have time to be restocked if he were to be used too many days on the trot.

When collecting sperm for Freezing I know they like to collect every other day for around a week and then rest the dog.

The dogs age and health and reproductive history would all have an influence.

What has happened is two bitches were booked for supposedly Sept and November and have unfortunately come into season together (typical). I think it results in a total of four matings (all being well)to alternate bitches in consecutive days. He is nearly six, as is well proven. I am slightly concerned but have been told it will be fine...

The only thing you may be risking is infection carried from the other bitch (and visa-versa)- I wonder if you can put them both on a course of Synulox  to try to prevent cross-infection.   Particularly so if the bitches have whelped before.

Lucie is due to go tomorrow and boxing day, which is day 11 & 13. Just spoken to the vet, they will only perscribe if she has a consultation, this concerns me to as there are high levels of Kennel cough about which is probably more risky/likely than a vaginal cross-infection.
Oh flippin hec, I am inclined to go without them, what do you reckon.

Yes, apparently lots of the dogs who went to LKA came back with Kennel Cough, which is one reason why I go to very few shows these days !! :-)

My schippy boy was very pleased to find himself in the same position ie 2 bitches booked mths apart only to arrive together --------- he mated them both on consequitive days for a week and they went on to produce 11 pups between them not bad for a breed that averages 4 pups per litter they got a 5 & 6.

mating on consequtive days is ok if the stud dog is young. The older the dog the longer it takes for the sperm to come back to full strength. I was advised by a top repro specialist that a dog over 7 years can take as long as 5 days to regain the sperm strength sufficient to fertilise the eggs.
I was also advised to use antibiotics(synulux) for 5 days from the day of the first mating and not before(again by a repro specialist vet).
