Had Kayla to the vets this afternoon and she has kennel cough :( the vet has given us a 2 week course of Noroclav for her plus enough for Chloe too if she also comes down with it, which thankfully so far she is showing no symptoms. I was reading back through previous posts and read something about fresh garlic being good, she has had honey in a bit of warm water today plus a kiddies dose of Benylin and I was wanting to know how many cloves of garlic we could give her-her appetite is normal although is sleeping more, at the moment she's nice and warm and covered up on the guest bed(!), I'm expecting a coughing fit when she wakes but then she can have her benylin before she goes to bed :) Poor thing is not really herself at the mo.
So just be on the look out, we probably picked it up at a show as we don't board our dogs. Not the christmas I was hoping for and we obviously can't go to see the litter we have a puppy booked from as it would be too risky. Nevermind...c'est la vie.

You are not the only one Emily.
We have four of ours coughing all of them were at LKA, so we obviously brought it back from there.
I usually stick with the good old Benyln, but am more concerned about my oldies at the moment, so may have to ring the vet for some antibiotics.
It's good to know I'm not alone LD, feeling slightly isolated and it was only confirmed today! Am toatally devastated about not beign able to see the litter but must concentrate on getting my Kay back to full health.
Hope yours get better soon, too, ,maybe we can set up a support group for owners-with-christmas-kennel-cough-suffering-dogs!!!!LOL!!
Its very frustrating Emily, but she will be back to full health soon.
I am just very grateful that we nor nobody we know has got any litters at the moment.
Trouble is we have 11 dogs and with four having gone down with it, with 7 more to go, think we will have a merry coughing christmas!!! :-(

get some hompathtic table made up for kc.

Luke has now recovered, but he and his mum missed the dog club photography session and their Christmas party..:( :( :(. It's as bad as when the kids had chicken pox - well, worse, actually because he's had to be isolated for so long. I trust Kayla will be feeling better soon.

Took pup to an open show for practice before the LKA and ended up with 2 dogs coughing (and myself

) so had to miss LKA :( not a happy bunny at all. The cough wasn't too bad but the sniffles were icky - they just couldn't learn to blow their ickle noses :)
Childrens Benylyn definately works.
I gave GARLIC GRANULES in everything, raw meat mixed with garlic + thyme (2 tspoons to a pound of meat, but only 1 tablespoon at a time), garlic soup made with spoonfuls of pate :) helped when they were coughing and trying to eat (dry kibble seemed to tickle their throats - or maybe they just love mums garlic soup :) ) and just to encourage them to drink. The cough only lasted about 3 days, then sniffles for a week. Darned pup was fine in time for LKA but not worth the risk. Glad I didn't go now if people have brought it home with them, mine might have got a worse dose. 2 very spoiled dogs for a few weeks :)
I agree with the spoiling part, Dill! Kayla often does get spoilt, especially by me, but she's definatley getting more TLC the poor lamb! She's still asleep at the mo-perfectly normal for her, it takes her while to rise but boy do we know it when she has!!!
I'll try the garlic, she's still eating fine and usually eats anything so it shouldn't be too hard to get the garlic down her neck!!

My 3 have had Kennel Cough recently as well!! seems alot of dogs have it at the moment! I am thinking of having mine the Kennel cough vaccine, i hear there is a new one out that lasts longer? has any body had there dogs vaccinated against Kennel Cough? if so has it worked?! thanks Zoe.
Up until this past summer I had never had mine vaccinated against KC, but we needed to kennel the girls in July, so we had to have it done. Intervet/Novobiac (sp?) has a new one that lasts for a year rather than 6 months as previously. It really does seem to be becoming more prevalent so I might just have to do my pup as well since we'll be showing her. I hated the thought of giving this vaccine when it wasn't necessary, but sounds like it's just becoming wayyyy too common again.
