My bitch is on her second season, well just finished. I need to know is it normal for her first season to have lasted five weeks and her second to of only lasted three weeks. any advice.

What do you mean by only 3 weeks?  the bleeding only lasted 3 weeks?  because even if the bleeding stopped  doesn't mean her season has ended.  I've had bitches bleed for 2,3 & 5 weeks.

Right thanks, what i meen by finished is stopped bleeding, but i do know that they are not finished until her vulva has gone down in size. What i meant was is it normal to only bleed fot 3 weeks when last one was 5.

All our bitches have seasons that last approximately 3 weeks total.

The bleeding portion of the season is only for the first 10 days or so, then they stop bleeding and are ready to be mated on approximately days 11-18. The season finishes around the 21st day and on the occasions when we mate our bitches, the bitch stops on around the 19th - 20th day and she will not tolerate a male after this time.

I would not expect the bleeding stage to last 3 weeks, but realise different breeds and even different lines within a breed will not be the same.

I would personally be concerned if the bleed lasted 5 weeks, the only occasion that this happened with one of our bitches, she had ovarian cysts which unfortunately resulted in her being spayed at only 5 years of age.

I would expect a bitch to bleed for roughly three weeks, whether or not she had been mated. As regards first seasons, how many human girls have regular periods when they first start?
