Just seen an advert in one of the local Petshops.
Neopolitan Mastiff x Presa Canario puppies

- you guessed it ready for Christmas :( :( :( Is the Presa even in Britain yet?

What are these people thinking?? Why cross two very large Mastiffs?? Why deliberately cross any breed??
I can just imagine the type of people who are going to be attracted to these :( :(
Its just so depressing :( :(
PS. this is NOT an advert - I am totally against this type of breeding
Yes the Presa Canario is in the UK. However why anyone would want to X the two breeds is beyond me

I can't help being puzzled by this too, after all if the motive was money the purebred dogs are surely worth more?? or are they just trying to create a bigger more aggressive looking dog??
I've always said you can tell a lot about a man's self confidence by the size/type of his dog ;)
maybe it was an accident ? its a shame for the people who will get fooled into buying one probably thinking it is some kind of new super breed!! how much were they charging? ( no i dont want one ! )

Margot ;) :D :D :D
Sarstaff,
No I don't think they were the result of an accident (if only :( ) the description of the pups was such that only people looking for 'big, strong-boned, large dogs, impressive, good guards' would be interested :( :( :( sadly these large crossbreeds are becoming all too common in this area, along with staffies and bull terriers (not very good ones :( )

they are not in the somerset area by chance are they? There is a well known "outlet" breeding these & similar x's there :(

We had a client where I work who has had 2 litters from brother and sister mating - Presas - at the time of her first litter the bitch was only 10 months :( he was a very aggressive guy and even asked if we would crop the dogs ears!!!

No Sam they are in Wales and in the village where these are I don't know of any puppy farmers - although this could be a new venture :(
I can't help wondering why anyone would pay the price of a pedigree pup only to breed crossbreeds from it, it doesn't even make good economic sense, the pups can't be registered and can't be sold for as much as pedigrees - although maybe I'm wrong about how much they can sell them for and there are enough ignorant fools who will pay pedigree prices for mongrels??
I definately think its a hard man, ego thing tho :( After all I rarely see Great Danes, Deerhounds or Wolfhounds being paraded around with anything like the same frequency that I see the various Mastiffs, 'Bulls' and their crosses :( and if it was a 'Big Dog thing' surely it would be a case of the bigger the better?
Oh Archer if you see the man again, hit him over the head with something sollid, then bring the ddb to me. How can anyone be so stupid. I hate to see my chosen breed in such horrible hands.

i reakon the bitch he has is probably a cross or unregistered, so pups wouldnt be worth much even if he bred with another of same breed. Perhaps this sort of breeding they thought maybe if he had two different breeds it would gain more interest, so maybe each person who saw it would recognise at least one breed? infact, it could be a mating with any dog, and u would never kno. so maybe they figure they can jus pick a breed that someone 'macho' will go for.
sorry im rambling.
sounds like its for the cash and didnt wanna dish out for a registered dog. And also, there are some stupid people out there whowill pay alot of money for these dogs.
There is a woman where i used to work who purposely crossed 2 breeds, i think it was a Weimanara with something. Now i couldnt see why she was doing it, cos she wasnt exactly poor, she lives in a rich area. And i said 'god wot r they gonna look like', and she was like 'very beautiful'.
some people.. jus have no education or common sense.
We have people here who crossed GSD with a Corgi, they've had several litters - all planned. The outcome is a GSD on very short legs, and because the tail is so long and big, it drags on the ground. These people think they look cute!!!!!!
There have been adverts for over a week now in the evening paper for black & white, CKCS X JRT
puppies @ £150 each. Been tempted to ring and ask if it was a genuine mating or a mistake. Can't think why anyone would purposely want to mate these two dogs, but then.................some people.
I saw an ad at PAH for Neo X Shar Pei puppies, about £100 each if I remember and today there was one for GSD pups, 'normal' coloured £200, all whites £250!
What goes on in people's heads, if anything!!!!
Oh yeah and the Bulldogs, about £1500 each, ready Xmas eve.....
