Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / nibbling/cleaning paws

I hope I have posted this on the appropriate board .... My fcr bitch 21months has started to lick/clean/nibble her feet whenever she is in her bed. I have often read about dogs doing this but never taken much notice as it wasn't applicable to me. I have had a thorough look at her paws but nothing to look at .. Any opinions, valued..

Hiya
This can sometimes be viewed as displaying signs of boredom. If you know that its not the case with your girl, then try and distract her. It can become a habit hard to break for them. Try giving her a Nylabone or whatever her chew toy is when she starts doing this - or even better - have a training session to tire her out :D ? If in doubt, still get her checked at the Vets though, for possible embedding of grass seed etc  :)

It Can be related to food allergies too :)

My boy nibbled his back feet whenever his anal glands were irritating him (had them out now and the nibbling has stopped). Vet said it's not uncommon for dogs to do this. Worth getting checked.

My boy used to do it whenever he was given some rich type of meat like cooked mince beef or lamb.  It was definitely an allergy where he was concerned.

For some reason most Flatcoats will chew at/clean their feet.  They will chew other parts of their legs too. My youngest Flatcoat likes to chew his hocks!!!

My Flatcoat does this too, and it drives me crackers :(

Sorry I can't help as I haven't been able to stop her, although someone did suggest a Bitter Spray may work?
