and cooked tend to splinter ....
My flatcaots have four on the go at the moment and they love them. As soon as they look a bit worn I buy new ones. I've never had one that has splintered, although mine do chew bits off. I wouldn't give one to a pup until the adult teeth are settled. I give my youngsters something like a rask for pups/small dogs are they are softer, but only with supervision.
My pup has 4 smoked bones that she has stolen from my other Flattie. She loves to try to gnaw them. They don't splinter at all and I wouldn't call them cooked?

I gave up giving smoked because they did splinter - into really sharp pieces - in breed that doesn't have a prticularly strong bite (but a very strong determination) :D

I never feed any cooked bone but I am now reluctant to give any treat that has been deep fried too. Roast bones are not infact roasted at all but deep fried. I used to have a pet shop years ago and once returned a box of roast bones because when I opened them they were ful of white and green mould. The manager at the wholesalers said when I return these all they will do is refry them and send them out again!
I must be buying different bones! Smoked salmon is raw salmon that has been smoked. The bones Ibuy just smell slightly smokey - no meat on them and they do not splinter at all

I think you will find the smoked bones from the pet shop are sterlised first so they are cooked :)
