Hubby got made redundant last year so we changed my Clio (which I cried the day she went! had been such a reliable car,but hubby was afraid that next MOT it wouldnt pass as things were starting to go wrong?!), and we got a Audi A3, have to confess with the dog in the back and also use it for transporting dogs for the rescue, I would much prefer my little clio back??..

Hubby also has a company car, but with jobs the way they are these days, if he loses his job again, his car goes too, so we have to get a "better" car, its a man thing I think, if I could have a choice I think I would like a Volvo estate, I could happily put the dogs in the back and not worry, already had a few scratches on the back, and a trolly dint (courtesy of a trolly in Tesco!) in bumper.!!!
- By hopevalley [gb] Date 18.12.04 18:40 UTC
Well, like many on  here, I have an astra estate (X-reg), my forth astra and I love them.  However, it is not really big enough to transport more than 3 flatcoats in the back (although we have had 5 in it, 3 in the back and 2 in the 'middle'.  I am looking into change it next year for either a citreon berlingo or a renault kangoo.  Yeah, yeah, I can hear you all laughing!!!  I have decided the practicality comes before image (not that I much on one in the astra!).  Does anyone else have one of either? If so how do you find it??
- By earl [gb] Date 13.12.04 13:44 UTC
Nice one Kath!  :D

My ol' man has cycled a fast 14 miles a day for the last 20 odd years and despite his 47 years has the body of a 20 year old he also has the scalp of a 20 week old but hey :D  Gorgeous!!! and I'm a lucky girl 'cos not only does he love me he loves the planet I live on, what girl could resist that!!!

Thats the one Busydogs could never remember the name but loved the book!

Well said Spaniel Lover - me and other half have never been on holiday together because Dogs and horses come first.  I get so sick if the grief over our cars but if that is what we choose to spend our money on then so what!

I worked for it, I pay for it and I will damn well enjoy it!
- By hairypooch Date 12.12.04 21:27 UTC
Well, Mummy drives a Land Rover Discovery, courtesy of the Company Land Rover, Daddy, when he drives occasionally, tootles around in a Black Cab (London Taxi) My brother drives the latest Aston Martin, again, courtesy of Aston (owned by Ford) and me, well, because of dear brothers connection, they lend me a sad old Mondeo Estate, I like to keep it low key you know :D :D :D

In the real world, I still drive a Mondeo Estate, OH drives a BMW X5, useless for my dogs :D but we work our bones to the ground every month to pay for and keep my Mondeo on the road and I wouldn't have another car if it was given to me! ;) Oh, and daddy drives a Jaguar S type but has just ordered a SL 55 Mercedes AMG!
- By GreatBritGirl [gb] Date 13.12.04 09:12 UTC
Just changed my fiesta for a 52 reg focus 1.6 ghia and i love it, wanted one for 3 years and now i have one :)

I drive an Audi A4, ive just got it and its ideal for the dogs and its damn quick too

My dad drives a brand new Skoda Octavia RS estate, he could afford a much more expensive car but he has no need to show his status with a flash car !!!!  Anyway his skoda beat an Mercedees off the lights the other day, i bet the owner of that car was devestated :D :D :D

I have an old (K Reg) Rover 216 Cabriolet.  Got it just over six months ago and its my very first car as I only passed my test in May.

Its all bought and paid for with my own money and I agree with what the others have said - having a car given to you is nothing like the feeling of knowing that you did it yourself!!!  :-)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.12.04 14:21 UTC
My first car was a Hillman Minx - mint-green and cream :D It was my sister's really, but she went abroad for a year and said that I could drive it as long as I paid all the expenses. It had a bench seat (the hand brake was on the right-hand side), no heater, no radio and it had cost her £25 :D I passed my test and drove it for another 6 months until she came home and demanded it back. She drove it for another year or two and then sold it for £25 :D I bought a Morris Minor Traveller - together with the green moss growing on the back window frames :D My own first car - I drove it for about 6 months until it was condemned as unsafe by the garage near my office and I had to travel the 20 miles home from work on the bus :( :( Happy Days :)

Been through all that - my first was mark 1 Capri (2 tone metallic green and silver--yuk!)- full of holes and went to the scappy pretty soon. Then a Fiesta - same story. Then a Fiat 127 which I paid £90 for and had it three years!

Nowdays we've gone upmarket with an Astra Estate (the dog's car) and an MGF.

I have had my little mini for 2 years now, bought it myself for £450 and it has NEVER let me down!!  We have 5 minis now mine which is an F reg (1988) all pink and cream a perfect girls car, 2 show cars which are a 1969 Cooper S replica, and my OHs souped up 1971 bad boy machine, we also have a pick up which is the latest project and a clubman estate which is a runabout.  Our "proper car" is a Creg Volkswagon Scirocco but give me a mini anyday!!  We take my mini camping 3 times a year, we have a little trailer and we manage to fit in me and OH a staffy a bulldog, a 6 man tent and ALL our stuff so yeah I think there is plenty of room!!  There is nothing like bombing around in an "old" mini throwing it around corners and waving at all the other drivers!!  (dont do the new minis though awful things, no offence for anyone the drives them just not our thing.)

WE LOVE MINIS!!!!!!!
- By Moonmaiden Date 13.12.04 16:08 UTC
