Luke (14 months) was very sick in the night last week. It was obvious that the cause was his having eaten round the edge of his & his mum's plastic dog beds. So they went out. We replaced them with cardboard boxes but they didn't stay boxes for long,and the kitchen floor was covered with bits of cardboard. Then we did the silliest thing of all and bought them lovely comfy foam filled beds for Christmas. Maggie was over the moon! This morning Luke had been sick in his so it went in the wash - fortunately, 'cos when we returned from church the other new, comfy bed had been destroyed and the kitchen floor was covered with bits of white foam, and the remains of the material covering. :( :( :( So it's back to pieces of fleece on the kitchen floor....the remaining bed will only be available under supervision in the lounge. I just feel so sorry for Maggie who has lost her bed in the kitchen due to the misbehaviour of her son...a mother's lot is not an 'appy one.....poor Maggie....

can really sympathise.  My dad made a lovely bed for our two so they could both fit in it.  It lasted all of a week by which time it was chewed whilst pretending to be asleep!  Sly buggers they can be.  I havent had the heart to tell my dad.  One now has a plastic bed and the youngest has a crate which he loves.  They both have single duvets which is a tip I picked up from here and I just change the covers every week.  No smelly beds anymore and they dont chew them - or at least havent yet. 

Hiya - I use the same kind of Duvet idea. For my small breed I have a Kingsize duvet cut into four smaller squares (all stitched up of course)...  They are fantastic as they are so easy to throw in the washing machine every few days.  The girls know they are their own property and will move them around to where they want them and even bring them to me if they want a cuddle up on the couch. I then don't mind if they do a bit of scruffing up to get comfy - as it's only their duvets that they are scratching :)

If they're eating foam beds then Duvets will just be seen as an interesting alternative (I speak from experience :( )  and the filling can easily be swallowed and cause problems :(

Like you Carene I just give them vetbed pieces now and wash them regularly, although I had to confiscate even those when the pup decided to eat them as well   a week of sleeping on cardboard produced a cure tho :)

Up-date. the remaining foam bed has been placed in the lounge where we can keep an eye on it. However, the last two nights the younger dog has barked in the night, and when let out in the garden - just in case- has gone back in and got in said bed - he's then been sent back to the kitchen to his fleece, and continued to bark, on and off. This has of course been ignored. As soon as I have got up and the day really begins, both dogs have piled into the foam bed and gone to sleep!!! Have we just got two very pampered pooches?

They might be cold with just a fleece which won't provide any draught protection, I know our kitchen gets pretty cold once the heating has gone off for the night.  How about buying blankets from a charity shop folded up under the fleece would lift it a bit, they are only a pound or two so they can be replaced fairly often.

Yes, I did wonder if they might be cold. They woke up twice again last night and are now once again piled up in the foam bed as I write! I'll see what I can do to provide them with warmer but chew-proof bedding!
