Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Lazy Bitch

I own a bitch that after having her season went very lazy.
So much that she does not want to run beside me in the
show ring. She had a small false pregnancy, but is getting
over that. When we start to train her it is as if she
immediately stops, and will not run. With tempting her
with all her favourite things to eat, toys, huge amounts of
fuss. We have shown her nothing but love and kindness.
She seems as if she could not care less, and it is
all too boreing for her. All she wants to do is lay in her
basket. Except when she walks with her other doggy
friends she is everywhere, happy, alert. Put her back on the
lead and she is hopeless. It is just as if she has decided
that she will not show anymore. Has anyone any advice,
is their anything I could give her in her food to give her more
energy? Any comments would be appreciated as I feel like
giving up with her.

Bitches can often be like this after a season. I take it you have ruled out any chance of her having a Pyometra brewing?

How often do you show? I would give shows a miss for a few weeks, and actually ignore her a bit, while doing some training with one of the others, when she sees them getting treats for trotting by your side she won't want to be left out. Otherwise you will just have to wait for this hormonal phase to pass.

If she is broodingin her basket, put it away ion the day!

I'm afraid a broody 60 days is a matter of course with some bitches. My old Mandy was like that. At that time I was working obedience and the answer then was, "Forget it" she was just not going to work! Others are not quite so bad. The Flower is in season at the moment and has a test a couple of weeks after it's finished and quite frankly, I'm not optimistic!

Thanks for the replies
No I do not think any infection is brewing. She is just lazy.
She is a Weimaraner, and should at least present herself as
being alert when standing, but she sinks into her shoulders,
lays her head back and goes to sleep. I have tried tempting
her with every favourite treat and she takes it as if to say,
Oh well! I will just have this one!.
I have a show with her Sunday and its a champ show. Maybe
I should give her a miss until she has got over what ever is
going on in her brain. Any more tips would be greatly
appreciated.

Hello
I just I should tell everyone that my bitch is now fine.
I took Brainless advice and ignored her, treated the
others which she hated. She will now stand again,
and seems so much happier in herself. I decided to
give her one more week, then if she did not improve
I would of taken her to the vets. But she improved on
her own. She is now happily playing again with my other
dogs, and full of life. I took her again to ringcraft after
missing a week and she missed a show. I am so happy
as she is a delight to take out with me:D
