We went to see Johno today - the dog we donated to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf last November. It was the last opportunity to see him before he goes to his permanent home.
He is a beautiful boy, just like our Luke except for a silkier coat. He demonstrated all his hearing dog tasks beautifully - waking someone up, alerting to the door-bell, telephone, cooker timer smoke alarm etc, and going to fetch someone. We were very impressed, not only of course with Johno, but also with the professionalism and caring attitude of the trainers.
Actually being there does open one's eyes to how expensive the whole operation must be - a doggy charity very worthy of support, IMHO.

I think all the assistance dog charities are great, not only do they benefit the person and the individual dog but, I believe, the work these dogs do helps promote a really good image to the general public about dogs, a good antidote to the usual media image of devil dog or victim!.
You should be very proud too, for having him accepted he must have a lovely willing temperament, what breed is he?

He's a labrador, and will be going to live in a large house in the country with 2 other labs, one of whom is the lady's 13yr old hearing dog, now ready for retirement. It sounds like doggy heaven!

Can I say that i think hearing dogs is a fantastic charity they take  dogs quite often from the stray kennels which is wonderful and they do a great job.
I speak as a  partially deaf person myself and hope one day that if i need such a dog that i will be very grateful.
