Panic is starting to set in as I have 6 adults for Christmas and normally its just ME :) i WANT SOME IDEAS FOR AFTER LUNCH ENTERTAINMENT....I refuse to put tv on & lets face it, scrabble & monopoly are a but cliche......so does anyone have some great things they do, games or silly things? i really want this year to be an old fashioned festive day because one of the chaps coming is  84 years young (acts like 40 yr old!) away from his family for Xmas & terminally ill as well so really want it to be fun!
Looking forward to all your brilliant ideas!!"

I hate the t.v been put on after Xmas lunch. I normally play board games with the kids, or play card games. Charades is quite popular in my house to, especially after several glasses of bubbly

The evening is normally when things liven up here, but none of the games we play is really suitable for an 84 yr old :(

Why not have a look for crackers that have a game attached. I saw some with whistles yesterday and they gave you music so that you could play tunes:-D Trivial pursuit do festive type game with mints as prizes too

Or what about Who am I? where people are given a character each and have to guess who each other is by asking questions.

Card games and something silly such as Pass the Parcel. Charades too. Pictionary is good fun esp. if you can draw and no-one else can!!!

Maybe a dog quiz and a small prize for the winner.

Give us a clue - when someone has to mime a film, play, song or book- can be hilarious. Your 84 yr old will probably beat everyone else, as he's been around longer!

Hi there

Have you ever heard of the board game Cranium. It is something we play when we have friends round. You play in teams of two and there are 4 catagories of Questions. The cats are Drawing/clay modelling,Data head which is questions/ Word games, such as spelling backwards, filling blanks, anagrams and Star performer which is my fav. My OH is fabulous at this and usually has the  whole room in stiches trying to guess who he is doing. By the sounds of things it might be ideal as you have one person doing something and the other guessing for the active ones at least lol.

Edited as I'm rubbish at spelling

It is fantastic fun. The very first night I met my OH parents we played it when we came home from dinner. I was terrified as his Mum seemed quite stuck up. However it really broke the ice and by the end of the night Dougs Mum and I were both very drunk, and kept laughing at every wee thing that was said. We do however get on really well, but I think playing the game opened up the communication channels that bit quicker than normal. My best friend actually asked me today when the next Cranium night was lol.

We have just bought Cranium that and also Cluedo SFX which is an interactive version of the good old board game version ! :)

We also have friends round instead of family so we intend of lots of laughter and a good relaxing time without having to do the family politics ! :D

Makes life so much easier having friends round, so much less stressful than fighting over all the usual trivial christmas things. My sisters and I have already had a row about who is having Dad this year. Horrible I know but you'd have to hear the whole story before you judge any one of us. As it ends up I'm the only one without inlaws so I'm having him. My kids will be away to their Dads after Christmas Lunch so I'll have to do a Christmas dinner too lol.

What about a 'murder mystery' game?

Or 'scene-it' - a movie triv pur type game.  Just pop a DVD into the machine and follow the instructions.

Toys R Us for both I believe.

great ideas everyone thankyou...although Steph....murder mystery might be too close to real life at the end of a fraught day with 9 puppiesto feed as well as the humans!!! :)  (I dont have dvd either :(  )

Anyway I know where there is a trivial pursuits I can borrow & off to search ebay for Cranium :)  :)

Hi Sam

I've just seen that you can get Dogopoly and / or Monopoly - The Dog - both seem to be like Monopoly, only about dogs instead of streets.  I think they look great.  Does anyone have these?  Are they good?

Sam, if you have lots of sprogs that are going to be there, you can buy/borrow or beg a Family edition of Trivial Pursuit, suitable for all ages :)

There's a cracking board game called Taboo that's quite good fun - you have to define a word for your team, avoiding all the words on a list. Good after a few sherries!
I like music quizzes - why not make a CD of intros (10 seconds or so) of golden oldies and see who can guess them all?

Sam, I used to think OMG party games till we bacame caravanners and went to some good rallies.
games were quite good.
one being line some bottles up they can be a bottle of soft drinks etc but then a bottle of wine as well wrap them up so as noone knows what the bottles are  place them at a distance people stand at designated spot and roll 5ps or 10ps the nearest to bottle wins that bottle money goes to charity you will see the most sedate of people become a hooligan cos they want to win;)
also  make a card with names on they can be dogs or actors or films they fill a square in which they think is the one you have cleverly covered with a peice of tape then when card is full take of name and the winner gets a prize.
