Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Westie with upset tummy

Hi,

Hope someone can help with this.

My 17 month old westie has developed an upset stomach, causing very soft, sometimes liquid faeces. I cut down on giving him processed treats (like smacko's etc) and it seemed to clear up a bit but now he has gone back to producing soft runny faeces again. He is currently on Pedigree Chum Puppy food in sachets which he has been on since a pup, with no problems until now. I am now trying him just on rice and grilled chicken.

Hope someone can give me some help with this.
Thanks,

Diane

I'm no expert, but when Libby had an upset tum, I gave her some natural yoghurt with her food, and that seemed to settle things down.

liberty :)

Edited to add it may be worth getting the Vet to check out your dog.

Hi Diane,

I think maybe a trip to the vet would be my first port of call.  Runny poos that don't firm up in a couple of days when action is taken need investigating.  Also, at 17 months, puppy food of any kind is not really an appropriate diet - it will be too rich for him probably.

Keep him on the chicken and rice with no added treats, titbits etc until you can get a vet appointment.

Good luck, and perhaps think of joining the forum so you can let us all know how he's doing ;)

Regards, Teri
