Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / digging in whelping box after whelping

our golden retreiver Suzie has had a lovely litter of five puppies six days ago but has now started to dig in her whelping box for no apparent reason, have any of you any ideas what could be causing this, she seems relaxed and doesnt appear to be stressed.

Don't worry, this is normal,  my girl is doing the same!

Have the vet check her out. There's a possibility of calcium problems.

Yep, have the vet check her, one of my labs did this as she went into a calcium defficiancy shock after having her pups.

My girl had her calcium levels checked today and it was 2.6,  my vet said it was just a normal reaction after whelping.  Hope yours is too, as your pups are a little bit older than mine.

Good luck.
