Anybody know how to get beetroot stain out of carpet? I've tried vanish.. but no joy (some fool left a bowl of beetroot thawing on the counter and left the dog gate open... Just asking for trouble!!) Thought there might be a magic old wives cure type thing for it?

Thanks  :-)

incidently, he enjoyed the beetroot!! (don't worry.. it wasn't pickled)

I was told to soak a piece of bread in water, then dab it over the beetroot stain. The bread is supposed to lift the satin out.

I personally haven't tried it, so I don't know how successful it is, but it's worth a go. :)

I'll give it a go right now!! Anything's worth a shot  :-)  will let you know the outcome!!

Thanks  :-)

I've found another one. Probably better if you have a wool carpet :)

Mix a solution of one teaspoon of approved wool detergent (e.g. Softly) with one teaspoon of white vinegar and one litre of warm water.

I've got some woolite... will try and find some white vinegar and give it a whirl! The dogs think I'm mad...

might be wrong but i thought that only worked when the stain was fresh .....like just spilt

Ok, I can report back that I can see how it would work on a fresh stain (just like inca just said) but it's not going to shift this lot!!

Try the other one I posted nitody. I'll keep looking for you :)

I don't know Inca.  I've never had to remove beetroot stains from carpets (plenty of clothes) so I don't honestly know how reliable it is.

he managed to drag it over the white laundry waiting to be washed as well.. so I'll try the woolite/vinegar on that too!

Here's another..

Enzyme digester (e.g. Amway Tri-Zyme) must not contain any bleaches or colour brighteners. Always rinse with clean water and absorb with a older cotton cloth.

tried woolite/vinegar... nothing. Found some soda crystals in the cupboard, again nothing! Argh! What is enzyme digester? Typically there's no biological washing powder in the house. I've got to go get ready for puppy class now anyway, so at the moment the carpet is soaking in a mixture of mr muscle/vanish/woolite/white vinegar/and soda crystals!!  Thanks for all your help Wolfie, I'm sure if the stain wasn't so old those suggestions would have worked... just have to get a new carpet instead!!

Thanks again  :-)

Have you tried that oxy bleach you can use that on carpets, its worked wonders on my friends with red wine and ink.  Worth a try maybe.

Michelle :)

WOW! You'll never guess what... I just got back from puppy class.. and the stain has gone!!!!  :-D Well.. it's still a bit discolored, but not pink anymore! So there you go.. a combination of mr muscle/vanish/bread/woolite/white vinegar and soda crystals works wonders :-D I wonder which bit of it actually worked. I'll probably find a hole in the carpet tomorrow!!

Thanks for all your help, especially you Wolfie

If there's a hole in your carpet tomorrow nitody, I think I'll become a Champdogs lurker :D (for a while at least)
