Just took my 3 collies for a walk and moss my 12 week old pups collar broke the ring came right off as a car was coming and Moss having no road sense ran straight to the road i crapped meself and just grabbed his tail on which he turned round thank god from now on im going to use two collars on him. I lost his new dog tag but i dont care aslong as my doggie safe. Id say no one trust the little 4.99 dog collars from pets at home.

Make sure you return to the shop and make a big fuss - also contact the manufacturer directly. There may have been a faulty batch.
I have never found their collars to be a problem but I dop check often for wear and tear which obviously wasn't the case with yours.
What a relief puppy was fine.
What a coincidece that happened to me only the other week! Same thing as you straight to the middle of the road he ran. For the very first time , in six months of having him, he actually came back when I called him. Made me nervous when walking him again - always worrying it may happen again. That particular death coller was also from pets at home!!!
I think Pets At Home unfairly gets bad press over these things. Lets face it, most of the stuff they stock is pretty good quality and pretty good value. I think you may have just been unlucky. The same thing has happened to me before, not with Pets At Home collars, but ones bought from other pet shops, and not always cheap ones!! Its funny that I should read this post right now, as I have just come back from doing a little lead practice on my drive with Tosca, and was really worried about her slipping her collar and running into the road! I reckon you should take it back though and make a big fuss. Get in touch with the manufacturer too, they need to know when their products are not up to the job. And anyway, they might just give you a big puppy pressie for you trouble!!

I notice you say you lost the tag too, I wonder if you had attached the lead to the ring of the dog tag instead of the one actually attached to the collar as that happened to me once the tag ring just pulled apart as they are not very strong and are not meant for attaching the lead.

I have been daft and attached leads to the tag ring before now and lost the tag but luckily not the dog - it's easily done!

This happened to my husband when Sefa was a pup it really shook my OH up as we live on such a busy road. The offending collar was from Wilkinsons though.I used 2 collars and 2 leads for ages after that.
