hi everyone i have a friend who bought to springer spaniel pups bout 1 yr ago they have been shown from being a pup and have won quiet alot of them she purchased them from a wel know breeder from the north east who has been breeding and showing all over the country for 25 years, however my friend has asked me to ask some of the spaniel breeders outthere at what age would you yourselfs breed from them as they have both done really well in the show ring have got a excelent championship pedigree and they are wanting to put one of them into pup but at what age would you recommend. they are very much loved pets aswel as show dogs and all pups will all have homes as over 20 people have put there names down for a pup off her dogs weather it be in the next year or next 5 years and they are all show homes.
i have no idea with this breed so i said i would ask the board o experts on here for her she just would like to know other peoples opinion as well as her breeder and vet just for peice of mind to what other people think is right.
thanks very much

If these pups have been bought from a successful breeder and exhibitor with 25 years experience, it would seem to be a good idea to be guided by them, wouldn't it?  They obviously know what they are doing and would want to see stock that they have produced maintain their good name.

The English Spring Spaniel Club states "No bitch should be mated before the age of eighteen months" Hope this answers your question.  I would think they would have joined the club if they are showing a lot and wish to breed in which case they will want to study the code of ethics in full.

Generally between 2 and 4 years seems to be about right for medium-sized breeds. What does the breed club's code of conduct/ethics say?

I have Springers and I waited until all mine were 2 before thinking of giving them a litter. The youngest I've mated has been 22 months but she was a very mature bitch.
There is no hard and fast rule  2 years is only a rough guide if the bitch is a very immature  girl at 2 then I wouldn't mate her until  later
