Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / How long, first stages of labour?
- By SharonM Date 11.12.04 09:34 UTC
My girl started her labour at 7.30pm yesterday, we've had the panting, being sick, sleeping, digging, getting out of her whelping box thinking she needs to poo, I've watched her all night, but no signs of first water sac or pups yet.

How long is it safe to leave her??

She's had two litters previously but never gone on this long.

Thanks

TYhey can keep this up for 48 hours, and if all else seems well and no green dishcarge signalling placental seperation then most vets would not want to intervene.

If you have one good at scanning they might just have a look to see that there are hertbeats and all is OK, but mostly it is just a case of waiting.

Her belly is hard, and I can see puppy movement, I guess I'll have to wait and see how she goes, I've warned my vet so she is on stand by if need be.

Thanks
