This is a strange one, my dog has always been in the back (hatchback) of the car when we go to the park and has been fine. We have been doing this routine every day for the last 10 weeks since we got him. He crys a little on the way but on the way back it's a nightmare, he crys very loud and barks at anything that we pass, I've been ignoring this for about 2 weeks now in the hope it will stop but my other dog who is on the back seat is getting very stressed by this. She has started clawing a the door. Why is he doing this only on returning and why now? It's not practical to take them out seperately.

What sorts of things do you do on your walk?  Do you think he's been so wound up by the walk that he's finding it difficult to relax again once in the car?  And how does he travel in the car - what position in the car?  In a crate?

He's in the boot of the car, he always stands, never sits or lies down. He loves his walks, he is still walked on lead at the moment. I can't understand why he has just started doing it as nothing has changed. He has started becomin a little jealous of my other dog if she comes for a cuddle in the house, could he be protecting me? If he'd always been like this I would put him on the back seat and the other in the boot and see if that would work. We always have at least 1.5 hours walking and sometimes if there's not too many dogs around I let him on the field on a really long line. He occassionaly goes for a swim aswell and sometimes walks through with other dogs. This morning he had 2 hours walk, on the long line twice, had a swim and he still barked at around 7 people on the way home.

I'd be tempted to get a crate in the back of the car, and to cover it with a blanket so he can't see out.....  I'd predict he will start doing it on the way out to the walk as well before too long......

BTW - what breed is he?

Couldn't really get a crate for the back, its a hatchback and I'd have to remove it every day as I use the boot for carrying work stuff. He's a dalmatian. Why do you think he's doing it?

This may have nothing to do with it but is your other dog let off the lead and why is the dalmatian kept on the lead?  Maybe he is frustrated at not being able to expend enough energy or enough mental stimulation.

Yes the other dogs off the lead and he's on as I've only had him 10 weeks (2 year old rescue dog) and his recall is practically non-existant at the minute. There's nothing I can do about that side of it at the minute if that's what the problem is. I'd love to let him off.
