Hi i have a little worry to share with you,i have two dogs and i am looking after my friends new puppy(the pup has been with me for a week)The thing is my bitch who is spayed has taken to the pup really well she cleans and plays with her constantly it's as if she has taken over the roll of mother, but she will not let my male dog play with the pup.She has also stopped eating like she normally does and i can see a difference in her weight now.She was spayed at six months old and has always been very skittish and playful but now she only seems interested in the pup not her companion or us.Has anyone had this happen before? Is she just maturing?she is two in march.

Don't worry she is just being a bitch, they are(well should be)naturally protective of young dogs that is quite natural Males on a whole try to avoid young puppies at all costs until they have stopped the play biting stage, on the other hand there are exceptions one of my GSD males would play like a puppy with the smallest of dogs & he was 32 inches at the shoulder !
