I was wondering if anyone has sent their dog to one of the residential school intensive courses, and what the results were like. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sending a dog away for basic obedience training is a totally waste of time & you have no control of what methods are used

Having a Gundog or sheepdog trained to the job they were bred for is a different matter

I agree with Moonmaiden's post.

I would never send a dog away because you never know what will happen. I understand a dog sent to one of the highly advertised residential training centres had a damaged eye due to robust use of check chain even though the place concerned advertises that they train reward based :(

Besides it is also true that the owner needs to know how to train and work the dog, or it will simply end up reverting to lack of obedience because the owner may not know what to do.

I agree with the others.  My dog had had some training before when I got him but the problem lay with me as I didn't know the right training methods to use with the dog.

I had a trainer come to the house and show me the basics and then we went to a class to follow it up.  The dog has to learn how to behave with you and not the trainer.  It's hard work but the results are good :)

I think it would depend on the setup.  As a general rule no but I do know of one place that supplies trained dogs to order that I would recommend but I don't know if they do just basic obedience.

A better idea would be for the owner and dog to go on an intensive residential course as it should be the owner who teaches the dog otherwise how will the bond between them that is necessary for the obedience develop?

theres one that is widley advertised, that states that no harsh methods are used, yet every single dog in the pic
is wearing a slip chain.
i dont mind usually a slip chain ,IF nessecary, but cant believe that all those dogs would need one.!!! if the trainers think they do then their training is likely to be IMO very authoritive & old fashioned
