Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / lumps and flakey skin
- By Guest [gb] Date 09.12.04 22:13 UTC
Hello,

I wonder if anyone can let me know what might be causing my four year old cocker spaniels skin problem.  She has several lumps on her back towards her tail and they seem to itch her alot.  The skin is also very flakey around this area.  I have taken her to the vets and he has told me that it is not caused by mites, but is not sure what is causing the problem.  Hope someone can help.

Kind regards,

Sarah

Hi Sarah

With skin problems it can be almost anything from the dog being too warm (did it start when you started having heating in the house) to the washing powers that you wash the bedding in to fleas to food allergies.

Can you think of anything that changed in your or her life in the days or weeks before the problem started?

Hello kerioak,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but have limited access to computer.  I have only had Rosie 3 months and have to say that when i went to see her before she came to live with me i did notice a few small lumps on her back, but since she has been with me the condition seems to have got worse.  I did see the vet who said it might be dermatitis and prescribed a shampoo, but it didn't help. I have also tried coal tar shampoo which hasn't brought about any improvement.  Any advice would be much appreciated.
